Found this restaurant for lunch today and what a great find. The service was excellent, the food out of this World and the ambience just added to a wonderful experience. I was also traveling with my small dog and I was allowed to keep her under the table. I shall definitely be going here again. The staff were so helpful and efficient.

Pau Restaurant

Reviewed By dd43 - Sydney

We had been staying in Peniscola for a few days and stumbled across this little gem when we went for a drive.
The degustation had a seafood theme and the wine was perfectly matched making this a wonderful experience and a very pleasant afternoon.
Isabelle and Pau have the whole concept of a top restaurant worked out and front of house was as impressive as the actual meal.
We were continually surprised by the standard of the meal and this will remain high on the list of memorable meals we have had on our 5 month trip through Europe.
Two tiny little comments though. 1. Maybe one meat dish among the seafood might tweak the whole experience. 2 please do something with the decor. The vertical blinds and the colour scheme do take the place down a notch or should I say back 20 or 30 years.
Overall a fantastic experience and one that we will always remember.

Benimar

Swiss food

Reviewed By Northern_Si - Manchester, United Kingdom

On a rather cold December evening and yes it does hit zero degrees in Alcossebre, Benimar was a welcome retreat.
Onion soup (served it what seemed like a bottomless bowl!) warmed the cockles and then the 3 fillets (beef, pork & chicken) with a béarnaise sauce and the all important rosti filled me like a stuffed Turkey on Christmas day. Wine prices compare favourable with other places in Alcossebre (18 euros for a really good bottle).
Service is excellent, and always nice to have a chat with the chef.
I will not be leaving it another decade before my next visit.

Bar Nou

We went there in desperation as everything was closed on the national Catalan day. We liked the setting al fresco on the opposite side of the road. The ordered tapas were OK. Were disappointed by the fries which were badly cooked and greasy. Additionally they were coated with two layers of ketchup and mayo: to make you run away

La Cuina de Fernando

Reviewed By Jose Luis G

We tried Cuina de Fernando for the first time with friends following recommendations from them.
This is an old traditional house converted into a cost restaurant. Rooms in two different floors. Charming informal decoration create a warm atmosphere.
2 menús on offer. We went for degustation menu at 27eu pp. 3 choices of entrees, 1 main and dessert.
All dishes were good. Traditional dishes slightly deconstructed without however total loss of texture. I am not a big fan of deconstructed food but this really worked. Our favourite Dishes were the ravioli and the cochinillo.
Only problem i believe is that they do not rotate much the menu which means probable that after 2 or 3 visits this may become repetitive given short list of dishes.
We were very impressed. High ratings very well deserved!

After a few visits to Peñiscola and rather disappointing meals, we tried Taverneta. This is a small restaurant in the old town close to the castle offering traditional tapas. We utterly enjoyed it. Highlight was the navajas and the croquetas of calcots. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is absolutely superb and was surprisingly quiet on the night of our recent visit. Sergio and Silvia create some amazing dishes, simple in appearance but fantastic flavours and fresh ingredients, mixing different culinary styles. They are passionate about the food they serve and both took the time to describe and explain the menu, giving us excellent recommendations for meals and drinks. We had excellent croquettes, two different dishes of pork and finished with a magnificent chocolate brownie! Save room for this dessert if you come here!!! Highly recommended.

El Guano

Reviewed By Mrsgoofington - Seattle, Washington

The food was hands down awesome. We started with the garlic shrimp which was one of the best dishes of the night. And the foie which was also quite excellent. For our main courses we had the bacalao with parmesan which was incredible and a totally odd but amazing flavor combination and the boneless slow cooked lamb. The wine selection was quite extensive and covered many regions of Spain. The service was impeccable and the meal included many touches such as fried plantains, tiny bite to start the meal and a dessert wine to finish. I would come here again in a heart beat.

We visited this week as part of our returning 7 week campervan trip of France and Spain. This was the best meal and best value for money meal we have had in the whole of our trip. The set menu had an excellent choice and we were very pleased with our choices. The service from start to finish was superb matching the food. Certainly worth venturing up the hill for..... But make sure you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
