This is the first meal we had in Onomichi, it was lat afternoon, but the waiting was still long,it took us about 25 minutes to get inside. The raemen was too salty for us, and the seats were not so comfortable at all,we finished the raemen as soon as possible, I think the reason why it is so popular is because of its cheap price. This should be the first and the last time we had meal there.

Miyachi Ramen

Reviewed By Yew Hong N - Singapore, Singapore

A really small local ramen place which is near to the rope way. If you don't speak Japanese, I'd recommend the Kitsune Chuuka, which is ramen with meat and a sweet fried tofu. There's also Curry Chuuka, Tempura Chuuka, and Tamago (egg) Chuuka. Chuuka is the Chinese noodle used in ramen. This place also serve the thicker Soba, and the even thicker Udon.

Never mind the time waiting in a long cue during lunch hour. Once seated, you have a staggering choice of ramen-noodle specialities. A shop well known by the locals is a guarantee you are at the right place. Don't expect any luxery, it's simply the food, without the opera you will encounter at the exquitite restaurants.

This shop is on the way of the Shimanami Kaido. Specialty shop of gelato using local fruit etc. Would you like to take a break with a gelato during cycling, driving and sightseeing? Especially popular spot for cycling customers.

Very famous gelato( which is a italian word for sherbet) dolce(also for sweet) factory and shop.
In two days, I took mandarin, salted milk and lemon in three locations(one in Onomichi and two in
Ikuchi Island). The best one is of course one I took at the main shop where I dropped in while cycling. You can order through internet but I think it is better to eat on the spot.

Tonchinkan

Reviewed By jeni_hk - Hong Kong, China

We stopped at Tonchinkan on our way to Hiroshima, as recommended by a friend from Onomichi. They serve Onomichi Ramen, famous for its soup made of soy sauce and pork fat. The restaurant has three sizes available for their signature ramen – small, normal and large (you can look at the prices for some indication of size). I chose the small portion which was just right for me, considering how many meals you eat a day when traveling in Japan! They also have a type of ramen where the noodle is served cold and separate from the “soup”, which is more tangy-flavored, also cold. We kind of ordered this one by mistake, but turned out this was very refreshing and not too salty like the Onomichi ramen.
We also ordered the gyoza, which was good but still not as tasty as those from Hiromedeyasube. Tonchinkan has a few parking spots only (I saw two though the website said they have 4). Note that they are closed on Thursdays.

Though we didn't have much time for our flight, we didn't want to leave Hiroshima without eating okonomiyaki. This was the last chance for us to eat.
You can enjoy typical Hiroshima local dishes and sake. They are good and delicious. So I asked the staff to make okonomiyaki for take away. We could.
The staff is attentive and kind.

You can't stop buying one more and one more scoop when you seeing such a cute and lovely ice-cream. The scoop of ice-cream will be placed in a set of wafer biscuits (or you can choose a cone). It looks very beautiful and attractive. Its taste is above average and the wafer is very crispy. As I know, the shop will provide limited flavors seasonally, hence don't miss out any flavor you liked.

It is the cafe near the shopping street of Onomichi, and the main sweets are waffles. The aroma of freshly baked waffle drift in the cafe in calm atmosphere, it will heal your tired body.
Typical way of eating it is putting butter and syrup on freshly baked waffle plenty. If you are not good at the sweetness, putting the syrup might be helpful to conservative.
But, it is impossible to order other waffle except "Butter Waffle" that is the plain waffle with butter and strawberry as a set menu. It's regret personally.

Yamaneko

Reviewed By Andrew1234 - Aomori, Japan

overall rating: 3-1/2 stars
Yamaneko is a fun East Meets West informal dinner choice. Starters included some tasty mozzarella slices marinated with soy sauce and wasabi as well as a decent Caesar salad. The local sausage w/fries was savory, and the Thai green curry w/vegs was suitably spicy. Gnocchi filled w/local figs and gorgonzola cheese made for a rich ending. French cider added to the meal...but, sadly, a mediocre Chilean red wine brought no joy. How sad that any cafe (even one in wine-starved Japan) should pour such plonk.
The overall atmosphere was casual, friendly, and upbeat. Service was decent. The tab for two bistro-style dinners was about ¥4000 excluding drinks.
