The food and wine was very good. We ate outside which was nicely decorated with a unique wall made of firewood, there was also a nice pond in the dining area outside.

The town of Langenthal is nothing to write home about; however it has a little gastronomic gem: L'Auberge. Tucked a few minutes away from the train station, L'Auberge is located within an impressive house, and combines excellent food and genuine hospitality.
I had dinner in the Bistro (really nice room), but there is also an upscale gourmet option in an adjacent and more intimate dining room.
Thumbs-up to the wonderful service - smiling, attentive and efficient. Mrs Vogl Baki (owner) welcomed each guest personally upon arrival - much appreciated.
The menu in the Bistro is kept short but quite appetizing. As starter I had beetroot ravioli with goat cheese - tasty and delicate. As main course I chose the chicken breast served with potato puree and cabbage. Eventually I indulged in a typical winter dessert: "vermicelles" i.e. chestnut vermicelli with meringue. It came out as a gargantuesque portion!
Swiss price level is very high and L'Auberge makes no exception, with the bill being close to CHF100. But the genuinely friendly service and food quality are definitely well worth it.

No, it is not another Apple product. No, there are no posters of Steve Jobs on the walls. This space is reserved for posters of indie films. This is actually the name my children gave to La Piazzetta years ago when Rita & Masi started the practice of putting an iPad in front of their young guests.
They already had a large inventory of toys which were rarities in Switzerland. So, La Piazzetta was already very popular in our house. But the first time Rita placed those 2 iPads of my children, it was smash hit. Brilliant!
Now one might think that an overly child-friendly restaurant is guaranteed to be second-rate in terms of the quality of the food, but I assure you this is absolutely not the case. The pizza here is hands down the best in Langenthal and furthermore, I have rarely ever found better pizza even in Italy.
Have a great selection of beers, some of which are made around the corner. Literally. It is just a 1 minute walk to the Hasli brewery. The price/performance of the wine selection is absolutely outstanding. I expect La Piazzetta is 1 of the top demand drivers for the Puro brand of wine from Argentina.
Lastly, and perhaps THE key factor in the "Rita'n'Masi Brand" is the fun, joyous, and open vibe. One might think that one has just stepped into a lively coffee shop in a college town. Nonetheless, when it comes to their pizza, they are all business.
iPads or not, we will be going back regularly to La Piazzetta.

Bierhaus Langenthal

I dine here regularly. I am a Stammgast, as we say in good Deutsch. There are times when I have had dinner here at "The Braui" 3 times within a week. And as a Stammgast, it is all too easy to take a place for granted. Some of the most valuable gems are right on one's doorstep. So, let me correct this oversight...
The first thing one notices upon entering is the history, impeccably preserved and with great care. You say to yourself, "My God, if the walls could talk." The next thing is the warm welcome. Any foreigner in Switzerland can tell you about 100 experiences that follow entering a "local" establishment... the strange looks, the whispering, the distance. This is not the case here.
The next is the collection of excellent beers. Guinness is at the top, obviously. (no bias from the half Irishman here)
If one judges the level of civilization by the number of establishments that serve Guinness per capita, Langenthal is now among the most civilized places in the world. 15 years ago, we had just 1 pub serving Guinness. Now, we have 4!
Then there is the menu.
I have tried nearly all the selections. They are all above average. Some are excellent. When lamb or rabbit or Pferd (horse) is on the seasonal card, don't miss it. It is world-class. The slightly-herbed pomme-frittes are always world-class. They are downright addictive. I rate them as the best in Switzerland. My children do not refer to The Braui as The Braui. They call it "The Pomme-frittes Place".
The wine list is short. But, you cannot find better price/performance anywhere. The average price is <CHF 6.00/dl and there is a selection for every mood.
Finally, there are the "community events" in the Biergarten in the courtyard. They erected a tent around a massive screen for public viewing of the World Cup matches. This is truly great fun.
The Braui is a must for all visitors to Langenthal.

Our friend too my daughter and I here for dinner last night. It was incredible. My daughter absolutely loved her pizza. I chose the pumpkin gnocchi that is on the seasonal menu. It was absolutely amazing. The sage in the sauce was the prefect compliment to the pumpkin. The dish was beautifully plated too. There was a crisp Parmesan cup filled with lettuce, basil and thyme resting on a zigzag design of balsamic glaze sprinkled with sesame seeds. I wish I had thought to take a photo. It was a taste satisfying as it was eye appealing! Next time we are back in Langenthal I will definitely make sure to dine here again!! Maybe even once more before I leave in a few days...

I have visited this a few times now - it is a great ventral location and just behind the Baren hotel and on the corner of the square. It looks very quaint and is housed in a lovely building.
There are not many of the wooden tables but as a group we did not have any issue getting one on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. If you ask the waiter you can have the wi-fi code too which is very helpful.
The food has always been good and the people friendly. A mix up on our orders once did not put us off as what we did have was excellent. Everyone tried to help translate and we all had a great night out. The prices were expensive but I do seem to find this in most places whatever the quality of the food - here you could guarantee the good quality adn with good service it seemed like a nice place to eat.

A la Carte Restaurant

Reviewed By Ravenshaw - Langenthal, Schweiz

I have eaten at "LaLaCarte" (as my children call it) so many times over the past 15 years that I could not even count. 100? 200, even?
As I just wrote in another review, sometimes the finest gems are right on one's doorstep. Of all those meals, there were maybe 2 that were below average. That is a track record that few restaurants on the planet can boast even when they never change the menu. The menu at à la cArte changes daily. Creativity and consistency are all too often mutually exclusive. Not here.
I always look forward to a meal at à la cArte. Why?
a) the soup.
b) the friendly, open vibe complete with attractive waitresses who always seem to have the right combination of competence and flirtatiousness.
c) the open ambience. The design is excellent.
d) the food. Always good. Always healthy.
More about the soup...
I have all but given up cooking soup at home. My children always compare it to LaLaCarte's and I always place second.
Very humbling.
I recommend à la cArte to all visitors to Langenthal. To all the travellers staying at the Bären: a change of scenery is just 30 seconds away. Out the front door, a quick right, then a quick left, and you're there.

The sausage and cheese salad with all garnishes was good. It was a very large portion with fresh vegetables and salads -- carrots, boiled eggs, cucumbers, celery, and cabbage. Nice presentation. My husband and I shared this salad (waiter did not like that we shared it) and both of us together could not eat all of it. My friend ordered the sausage cheese salad without all the garnishes and it seemed like a reasonable portion for one person.
The service was not particularly good - waiter was not positive nor helpful.
