Lanark (/ˈlænərk/; Scottish Gaelic: Lannraig, Scots: Lanrik) is a small town in the central belt of Scotland. The name is believed to come from the Cumbric Lanerc meaning "clear space, glade".

We hadn't booked but was accommodated immediately. The staff were very friendly and the food was 100 % to our liking. We booked for the next day Sunday lunch and that too was amazing.

Place was unexpectedly quiet for a Saturday pre-Christmas lunchtime. Was offered a table I had previously sat at a few week prior and was frozen so asked for another table. No problem. Service was extremely slow, only two people serving, we ordered wine which wasn't served until we asked for it - with the main! Starters were ok. I had lasagne for a main which was awful, thick rich tomato sauce with mince and pasta! The place was really cold, glad we had been given another table to start with. Won't rush back. I think I got them on a good night circa 6 weeks ago!!

Sampled the Spring menu on Wednesday, the first day it was available. Wasn't disappointed, the meal was exceptional.
Staff continue to be attentive and professional in a relaxed atmosphere.
This restaurant has now been in Lanark for over 35 years and has continually produced fabulous food.
Thanks to the lovely staff, Pasquale and Aldo, not forgetting the main man Tiziano.
Thanks for all of our lovely meals over many years

Cosy bistro set within the Scottish Equestrian Hotel. Outside Seating in the summer house for those rare occasions that the sun comes out. FANTASTIC LOUNGE AREA WITH SUPERB WOOD BURNING STOVE. views from the bistro on to the Horse yard and ridding arena.
While staying at the Equestrian Hotel, this connected bistro made sure to keep us well fed with delicious home cooked meals throughout the week. While learning to ride, canter and jump with horses it was lovely to be welcomed with a bowl of steaming hot soup for lunch, or a fantastic 3 course meal for dinner.

Recent re-visit to this tea room. Food standards still as good as ever, especially the soups. Do not know who cooks them but the range and quality are superb. I can recommend the soup Sandwich combo; the sandwiches of which are stuffed with generous amounts of filling. The cake selection and portions are excellent also. Small points to suggest: ladies serving; a wee smile would go a long way and the toilet is in need of a revamp.

Visited today (2 February 2018) with my wife for lunch. She works split shifts so didn't have a great deal of time. We sat down at a table that had been cleared from previous customer but was still dirty. We sat and waited...and waited...and waited. There were staff milling around either serving or clearing tables, then off they'd go back to the counter empty handed. No thought to take our order. Two other tables came in after us and staff went and took their orders within about 5 minutes (still long enough in a cafe!). They then served another table that came in 10 minutes after us. Eventually my wife tried to get their attention and someone said we'll be with you shortly. 10 minutes later We just upped and left with no acknowledgement from anyone.
Incidentally we use the cafe regularly (over 8 to 10 times per month), they've just lost really good customers as we won't be going back. We used to a have a bit of a joke about the poor service in there but today it was the pits.
On another note toilets are never properly cleaned and always a bit smelly. We'll take our custom elsewhere in future..thank you very much.
Very disappointing particularly as the manager was one of the ones working at the time!!!

My hubby and I visited the revamped Woodpecker Restaurant for dinner on 24th Feb.
We had been out the previous night at Number Sixteen in Glasgow which had an almost identical menu (in terms of dishes and prices) and felt by comparison that The Woodpecker wasn't quite up to scratch.
Decor was very nice and modern. Atmosphere was slightly lacking - there were a lot of staff watching our every move so wasn't as relaxed as I would like. (The staff appeared so on edge that I was asked how the food was before I'd even put the first bit of my starter in my mouth).
Music was acoustic and very appropriate; however, about 8pm there was sporadic bouts of base coming from downstairs (like eating your dinner above a noisey party) - not sure if they were doing a sound check etc, it was towards the end of our meal so not a major problem but slightly irritating.
Our waitress was extremely friendly and was trying very hard (missed her name but had an American accent so not difficult to identify).
The menu was excellent in size and selection. Food was very well presented.
I had the Mackerel to start with. The dish was very tasty but had a couple of niggles. The Mackerel skin had quite an unpleasant rubbery texture. I also felt the ratio of Mackerel to fennel was a bit off - massive hunk of fennel which was quite difficult to cut.
My husband had the pork belly which was very nice except for the fact it was cold (possibly due to being served on a cold plate).
I had the Hake for main. Tasted nice but needed some texture - everything was soft. Serving a large chunk of butter on top of the dish didn't seem to add any flavour but meant that the dish got steadily more mushy as it was eaten. If the skin had've been crispy instead of soggy this would've added much needed texture.
My husband had the Ox Cheek which was by far the best dish of the night. Really nice rustic, flavoursome dish.
I had the pear tarte tatin which tasted really delicious but was cold.
My husband had the cheese plate which was a huge let down. Three tiny pieces of cheese. The menu gives no indication of the type or quantity of cheeses included on the plate. The cheeses were extremely lack lustre. Style over substance for £8.50!
Feel a bit guilty for continuing to critique but that is the point of Trip Advisor and also feel if your going to price yourself with the big boys then you have to perform with them too...
Further niggles:
Our waitress didn't know what lagers the restaurant had when taking our drink order.
She didn't know who had ordered which dishes when serving our food (despite there being only two of us and the restaurant being half full).
My husband could see into the kitchen from his seat. There was a tea towel on the counter that numerous staff were drying their hands on. Our waitress used this tea towel to serve my husbands Ox Cheek dish (I would imagine because the plate was hot) and the tea towel was actually touching his food.
Finally, my husband asked for a black coffee with cream to be told there was no cream. I'd imagine a restaurant would need cream to make sauces, ice cream, butter etc but even if you don't have any in - you're across the road from Tesco.
Overall, I feel this place has potential. I got the impression the management were passionate and keen to create somewhere special and so I hope will take reviews on board.
I also appreciate that my husband and I ate here on the restaurants second weekend since opening so I imagine teething issues will be ironed out.
I will therefore definitely return in a couple of months in hope of being able to give a better review.

Opened in April 2013, this quirky little lunch Tea Room is situated on the site of the old Daisies Cafe. Kym does all her own fresh home-baking on the premises and uses local suppliers where possible. Our decor is based on the history of Lanark and local art and crafts. We have full disabled access and facilities, a family room with toys, books and games to entertain children and adults. With 2 spotless toilets/babychange and an interesting cosy environment to enjoy, we hope to provide a simple fresh experience for all. Kym the Owner/Baker has recently been the recipient of a Scottish Home Baking Award and a wonderful review in The Herald newspaper. Being a relatively new business we are still finding our feet, and learning with every day that passes, we appreciate any review and any feedback you can give us. We do outside catering, and have had several events in the Tea Room like book signings and a wedding!
Visited with family late on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly place. Good cup of tea and very excellent home baking. And a policy of sustainable and locally sourced suppliers. ??
