We came here expecting a five star experience. We had a great table, wonderful service, BUT, the food was almost laughable! My husband ordered the smoked scallops as an appetizer and he was served 1 scallop sliced into 4 tiny slices for $28! We almost thought it was a joke. The menu says scallopS - plural! I had rack of lamb as my main with pulled lamb on the side. It looked as if they had taken the meat off the rack to make the pulled lamb. There was not enough meat on the bone to cut - I had to pick it up and try desperately to find a scrap of meat. The pulled lamb had so much sauce on it, it might as well have been pulled pork. My hubby had veal tenderloin as his main and it was dry and overcooked. The wine list is very good which was the only good thing about the experience. Over $300 for a very disappointing evening - we left hungry.

The food was very good but the service was very slow the night we were there on a Saturday. I really liked the fact that when you order wine by the glass they actually do the pour in front of you so you are assured that they are pouring what you ordered. Parking was a problem as their lot was full and there is limited street parking. Definitely worth a another visit.

We stayed in La Malbaie for 3 nights and ate dinner in this resto twice - the first experience was that good.
Whether the table d'hôte menu or the à la carte menu there is something for everyone - including selection and price range - fish, seafood, or meat & veg.
Most memorable dishes were the fresh seared foie gras, the veal ribs, lobster tails, and fresh, grilled fish. Most dishes are served with local fare and that is highlighted on the menu.
The Charlevoix region is known for it's quality produce and locally raised meat and this resto highlights both.
Reservations recommended because it is that popular - with tourists and locals.

We loved our Saturday night dinner.
Five course chef's menu for $54 Canadian dollars. Grill your own bread in the cozy fireplace. Terrific wine list. From the fish to the ostrich carpaccio to the filet mignon, the food was excellent as advertised. We'd be there weekly if we weren't 5 hours away!

My husband and I had dinner at Café Chez-Nous -- we both had pasta dishes with Charlevoix sausage, they were excellent and filling. Mine was the table-d'hote special, and included soup or salad and dessert. The soup was excellent, clearly house-made. The dessert was clearly not house-made, and could be skipped. We had excellent local Charlevoix beer. Service was efficient and cheerful. This restaurant is casual, with a wide selection. It was right beside our motel, the Castel de la Mer. I recommend it for a casual, pleasant dinner at a reasonable price.

Delicious food beautifully presented. Lovely staff. Nice view of the river. My lamb chops were exceptional, as was my dessert of 3 flavors of creme brûlée.

Apparently everybody knows that this is the best restaurant in La Malbaie - at least in winter when some places are closed.
Quiet, lovely, not stuffy, wonderful servers! Thank you for being so nice and helpful to us as the menu is unique.
Choose either two or three choices and every bite is incredible. The little extras just come - including an amuse bouche and small desert if you prefer not to order a regular dessert. Bread made in house also. We got an amazing duck dish - sort of a mouth watering terrine that came with a toasted crostini with a smooth fluffy goat cheese and roasted pear! Yum! that was so sweet and not too goatee, excuse my descriptions but goat cheese can be too much. Did I say that every bite was to savor?
Oh my. This place should have been full but I think it is considered a place for an occasion but a vacation is an occasion . I want to eat here every time in La Malbaie from now on. And they have suggested wine pairing for each dish, by the glass , very convenient .
I give this place highest ranking for graciousness, food quality, creativity and lightheartedness

Drive to this fantastic quirky restaurant .... It was one of the best nights of our holiday. Expect to be one of the few non-French speaking people but sharing a table, eating great food, touring the hidden bootlegger house and having the best laugh with dancing ... And other events that I wouldn't tell you in advance because it would spoil the fun .... Made for a brilliant night out. Just make sure you keep an eye on your drinks bill ...... Not that they alter it but we watched so many people having a fantastic party night they obviously lost track of consumption and therefore their bar bill! We went with our 21 year old sons and had a brilliant night.

We tried 3 different places in La Malbaie for dinner and nothing gets close to Chez Truchon, even when it's really good. We had Table D'Hote and each item was a little piece of art. The two of us each ordered different things (only the...MoreThank you very much! Your comment is really very pleasant and rewarding for us. We shall do to be up to your expectations for your next visit and for all who read these words. Au plaisir!

I enjoy a few weekends in Mal Baie every year...a bit of art..abit of Domain Forget..a bit of great food..My stay at the Auberge des Peupliers met my needs...the rooms comfortable, the breakfasts very good, the service good. It was a busy time of the year and rooms were scarce in the area....book early as the the good places fill up quickly.
