Went with friends, food wise nothing was bad but nothing was particularly good. The onion rings were not crisp. One of our group asked of the fillet steak which was part of his mixed grill could be lightly cooked, the waiter responded by saying rhat it was not an option and that it would come as cooked. This wasn't very encouraging.

We have visited this pub in the past and always enjoyed the food. This time a party of five of us plus dog were given a table next to the open fire, very welcome on a cold and damp day in the Scottish Borders! Without having to be asked they brought a water bowl for our pooch.
Our lunchtime food was superb, beautifully presented and so tasty (far better quality than a restaurant meal we had later in the week). The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It was a great lunch for us all. Would heartily recommend and we we will certainly be back when next in the area.

Very central location, lots of town parking, clean, friendly hotel with buzzy bar. Great value for B & B £60.00 per night. Good cooked breakfast served by very friendly staff. We visited this restaurant with our daughter and grand daughter for coffee and cakes and it was just what we needed. The cost was £17.20 for the four of us.
It was good coffee and an excellent choice in cakes.
They also have a good gift shop that includes their smoked products and outside there are some carp in pools and an interesting river garden.

We went on an Itison voucher. It was great. A beautiful building, well maintained. Reception excellent. We had a lovely room with rural views. We wondered if we should abandon the table d'hote voucher menu for the a la carte but decided to stick with it. Food was excellent, tasty and well presented and plentiful. We took a dessert for one of us which was good and I had the splendid cheese board from which you could choose all you wanted. Our waitress was excellent throughout but she excelled at describing the cheeses. The duty manager Gavin was very professional and knowledgeable, an asset to the hotel. The other duty manager signed us in and out and was good too. Breakfast had a wide range choice and was good too. We have no criticisms of any kind. This was a very good experience on all counts.

Stopped off for a quick bite to eat and drink having travelled quite some distance and had read it was dog friendly. There is a hand written note out front instructing you to ask before entering so I did. The young lady was very pleasant and told me I could bring our little Westie in but only sit at the table directly in front of the door (had my eye on a comfy sofa, but oh well) She then said she would need to check first and promptly asked all the other tables in the vicinity if they minded us coming in! This was hugely embarrassing and humiliating for us, and the people being asked looked distinctly uncomfortable too.
We had intended to stay for lunch but felt so uncomfortable that we had a quick drink and left.
We visit many dog friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs and have never wanted to get out of somewhere so quickly before! So I am sure that the food is good, it certainly has good reviews but if you have your 4 legged friend with you I would give it a miss...

Superb setting. Good staff and service. Bar has gin of week and specials worth trying. Food very good and fresh. Not fine dining but good dining.

We were regulars here and since the summer menu came in seems as if designed to gouge the tourist trade. Portions were tiny and expensive for quantity as well as the quality of regular items greatly inferior. Will need a shake up to entice us to return. Also Wi-Fi never works!
