Pizzeria Valention

It was late evening and dark when we ended up there. The nearby nice-looking cafe just got closed, so we went towards the light... Wrong choice. Pasta was not good, pizza was bearable, kebab did not have enough sauce. It took really long to get the food. The establishment itself feels not clean enough, the service was not somehow friendly.

Hirvikartano

Reviewed By KM26864 - Tartu

On arrival to Himos center there was a waiting time of couple hours before getting cottage.
We decided to find a restaurant and have some lunch.
We started follow the signs showing the way to the restaurant we actually didn't know. More kilometers we drove, more doubts confusions arrived.
We were not at all prepared to the lovely place we reached finally.
We met really nice host and nicely renovated building with a huge stove in a dining room.
Menu based absolutely on local products collected from own forest, lake or yard.
Never had such a delicious mushroom soup before. Also meat served was extraordinary.
And during you wait for a food to be served you can meet elk Matti and many reindeers in a local minizoo.
Really recommend as a place to visit. Very warm welcome and delicious food!

Ravintola Patapirtti

This restaurant is hidden between lakes and Forests nearby town Jamsa. We went there for early dinner (because of children), so we did not make reservation. There were free tables on the Terrace, so we decided to eat there and children were free to move around. Patapirtti is surrounded by beautiful garden with flowers but also with raspberries and vegetable that you will finally find on your plate... :-) Seasonal and ecologically grown "products" are used to prepare meals. It doesn't matter what you choose to eat, because everything taste delicious. I had a pikeperch (caught in lake Paijanne) with herb cold sauce and boiled potatoes, accompanied with seasonal vegetable, and it tasted great. I can also recommend desserts made from seasonal berries - I had ecologically grown blueberries with rye dough and vanilla ice cream and it was delicious. If you want to enjoy nice lunch or dinner on a beautiful place in the middle of Finland you should definitely visit Patapirtti. P.S. Try a glass of sparkling wine made of green currant!

Sirkan Cafe Kahvila

Reviewed By kjraiha - Tampere, Finland

As others have said, this place is a local diner, serving well prepared food, and frequented by locals. The moose statue in the front is a good landmark.
Two of us had pork schnitzel for lunch, and one had beef stew. Big enough, tasty portions, we all left happy.
Children can be the best judge of quality. There were several choices also for children, and we chose meat balls with mashed potatoes for the 1-year old in our company. Again, a big portion, enough even for school children -- and the kid almost finished it! Looking ever so happy! We were amazed. Must have been some great meat balls. And after eating, he happily played in the children's corner -- and fell asleep immediately when we continued our journey. :)
The cafe is part of the same complex as hotel Jämsä and the accompanying restaurant, probably sharing the same kitchen. Beats the food in the service stations just across the street, don't make the mistake of skipping this one. We visited in the summer, when the place is open more than during off-season, check the hours before planning a visit.

We use this restaurant regularly for having take away pizzas when visiting Himos ski resort. Reasonable prices, quick service and good pizzas. If you have young kids and stay in a cabin, I recommend take away. The restaurant is also a bar so it might not be the best option to eat at the evening.

Ravintola Tupa

Reviewed By mrmojo77 - Vaasa, Finland

Restaurant Tupa is located inside Hotel Himos and acts an a'la carte restaurant in the evening. We went there for a dinner with a group friends. They were organizing some Christmas dinner buffet the same evening and although there was not many people in at the time the kitchen was busy. It took more than one hour from the order to get our food but waitress was friendly and offered us a round of drinks as a compensation.
I had the 300g piece of pork glazed with beer syrup and oh my it turned out to be the best pork I've ever had in a restaurant. it was not the usual thin cut piece of pork but thick piece that had been cooked to very tender like pulled pork kind of tenderness.
Chili mayonnaise and fries were also good with some Finnish vegetables. There could have been a bit more fries on the plate but still it was simply delicious and I left an empty plate for the waitress to collect.
Two of my friends also liked the pork very much and two other guys enjoyed the steaks. Nice evening and we left the restaurant with fully bellies and good feeling.

Shell Jamsa

Reviewed By Bonestorm109 - Essex, United Kingdom

This place is perfect for a stop when you are on your journey or just looking to fill your gut and get on with your day.
The coffee is nice, the food is nice. It's an all rounder, plus it's attached to a large shop so you can do a full shopping trip too. AND you can hire a car from here but be warned, car hire is EXTREMELY expensive as in you pay for the car, insurance, mileage and fuel all seperately.
So, yes, I'll be a regular here as my brother has a place in Jamsa. It's pretty much like a UK SERVICES on the motorway but with home cooking.
Highly recommend but don't take a date here, you won't see her/him again, unless they are awesome off course!
Some of the staff speak English too which is a bonus.
Very friendly staff

This restaurant is located in Himos alpine ski resort next to the main parking lot and the service area. We had a good lunch buffet and tasty burgers from a la carte list in the evening.
Pricing is reasonable, service OK and the quality of food very good. Portions are big enough for the price.
