If you are visiting Denmark and find yourself taking a trip to the countryside of North Sealand you might want to pay a visit to Gerlev Kro, a country inn or auberge in the old Danish style, and treat yourself to a sunday lunch.
The building is absolute charming and the food served is authentic and very tasty. Looks like most of the food is actually made on the premises and even the traditional rye bread is home made.
It is also not pricey at all.
If you want to experience the Danish 'hygge', this is a good place to get a glimpse of it.

After some days in not very good restaurants ( we are Italians and quite spoiled about food) we ended up in this small café and we had a great surprise! We were eight of us, with kids, and each of us enjoyed the food. They have great salads, with a perfect combination of different ingredients; portions are big. Price is good for what they give you. We really recommend to go.

cozy cafe if you remember to visit the "old living room" with funiture from the old days...
We had homemade cake (grandmas cozy cake-with apple) , jummy and coffee. Sad in the old living room with lots of charme and was glad that we came to visit this little gem of a cafe.

First and foremost, it is important to point out that we have a new modern restaurant that always need to adapt to your wishes and needs. Moreover, we have one of Frederikssund best locations with view over the harbor. We wish, you see us as a nice family restaurant, which can be a bit of everything. There must be room for families and companies, but also for business dinners, conferences and a romantic 3-course dinner. We strive for that service must be the key word in our restaurant. The experience must begin at the door when you as a guest encounters a smiling waiters and not only when you taste the food. We make everything from scratch and have a sense of detail. Whether you are young or older - and whether you should throw a party, reception or course we always have room for you :-)

Today we had what we in danish call a 'loevemad' (lions bite) or in english 'tartar with egg' in this nice restaurant and enjoyed it with a perfect view to the harbour where volunteers were making a copy of a vikingship ready for the summer...MoreDear Danexplorer, Thank you for your kind words. We've been here several times, as it is a fantastic place: peaceful calm, with a great view on the Roskilde Fjord and Frederikssund. Especailly on a summer evening, when the sun goes down a perfect place to be.
The service is very friendly. The menu card is quite limited, but the quality of the dishes is absolutely OK, and the prices are also OK.

Living in the countryside, we try to support the local business community as we can - by shopping locally if possible, by using local worforce when something is to be done around the house, and by eating locally when the occasion calls for it. Most oftem these occasions are the annual Christmas and Easter lunches - buffet arrangements offered by all such establishments. This year, our Easter lunch took place at Vossevang Kro - halfway between Frederikssund and Frederiksværk. The concept resembles all the rest - traditional decor, mismatch of styles, predominantly local guests and a traditional buffet with Danish specialties - from herrings, marinated salmon and pan-fried sole to liver paté, meat balls and all the rest. One thing differentiates this one from many others, though - the quality of each single element. Most of it is home made and tasteful, and more delicate than what we have found many other places of the same kind. Staff is friendly and efficient, and the overall experience a very positive one. We may quite surely revert for Christmas to se if they do that equally well...

After the end of a nice bike ride along cycle route 4 from CPH we had worked quite the appetite which was more then satisfied at the Chef's Cafe. Hands down one of the friendliest dining experiences we've had on this trip. The owner was so kind and her passion for food was evident as she kindly walked us through the Danish menu.
The food was amazing. It was so hard to choose between all the options. In the end we both had the most delicious pea soup complete with edible flowers and home baked bread on the side.
This is such a cute cafe and 'must try' if you are visiting the town.

The style of restaurant is like a banquet where persons who reserve the table sitting in the same long table. It represents another feeling of having dinner. Food is great and price is not expensive. Absolutely, we will visit again since the restaurant always changes the menu of the day.
