It's a very wonderfull city! You can see the sunset from the teraces near the sea, you can see thousands of small fishes also near the teraces in the sea. And a small tip, don't order too much food, they bring alot of aperitiffs with the drinks. Services are wonderfull! Looking forward to visit Igumenitsa again soon

Timos Taverna

Reviewed By wucie - Bern, Switzerland

Hoping to enjoy a last fish meal before boarding the ferry to Ancona, we stopped at the Timos taverna, attracted by its shady Terrace. Admittedly some trees are plastic and there’s no sea view, but the colour scheme and wood tables and chairs are pleasant. Neither were we put off by the lack of off-road parking and left the car to sizzle under the late afternoon sun.
The taverna was empty barring one group of Italian truckers. I asked to see the fish, but the waitress insisted on setting the table beforehand. It’s a good way to get you hooked, pardon the pun, into staying and eating at Timos, which according to the mural has been running since 1964.
So we sat and asked what large fish they had. Bream and bass. Farmed I asked. Yes, came the answer after a moment’s hesitation. I didn’t want farmed fish. I’ve dived around the local fish farms to the north of Igoumenitsa and spotted more cages from the Ferries leaving the port. I wouldn’t swim in the later, never mind eat anything from those turgid waters.
For a long-running fish restaurant, it wasn’t a dizzying choice.
We ordered a portion of sardines, one of fried anchovies, a lettuce salad, a tsadziki, a half kilo of wine and a bottle of water, rounded off by one Greek coffee. The food was OK but salty, especially the salad and anchovies, and unmemorable. The house wine was the least good we’d had and it was the only taverna on our three week trip that didn’t offer a parting plate of fruit or sweets.
The bill proved equally salty. The waitress arrived with the usual handwritten paper but refused to leave it on the table announcing it was Euro 36 (nice round number). We paid but then realised it was too much for what we’d had. I asked for the bill. Instead of the hand written one, an electronic receipt was produced for the total amount (not itemised).
We couldn’t be bothered to argue and had a ferry to catch though we could have stayed as unbeknown to us it was delayed for three hours.
A disappointing end to our Greek trip. Save your Euros and go somewhere else.

Great seafood tavern, a very nice lady cooking and her husband serving. Always fresh fish, should try absolutely everything! Except seafood, fantastic appetisers! Could understand how good they are also by the fact, that the tavern is always full with locals. And it's not so easy to find a good seafood place anymore. Συχγαρητηρια, congratulations, complimenti!

One of the tastiest ice creams I've ever had!!!
While travelling to Corfu we've made a stop in the city of Igoumenitsa only to find this lovely, colourful little Ice cream shop.
Driven by the fact that they use Fresh Biological milk - first time I've ever found such a thing in all my travels in Europe we gave it a try.
With 3 basic flavours of the yummiest ice cream, but with one of the biggest variety of topics I've ever seen plus some traditional Greek pastries to accompany your selection.
My husband had a traditional pastry-I think they name it kataifi (or something like that)- with cream ice cream and it was all he was talking about until we finished our vacations and visit again his- I quote- "little piece of heaven"!!!
Definitely a "must to visit" place in Igoumenitsa.

Located on the sea front, with available parking along the street. Good food in generous servings, we had fried calamari, chicken schnitzel, a grilled sea bass for one, a plate of mixed boiled vegetables, quite nice, baked eggplants also tasty. With a bottle of water 54 euros, credit cards accepted.
