Top 10 Things to do in Cluj-Napoca, Romania

August 7, 2017 Leonardo Torrence

Cluj-Napoca is the unofficial capital of Transylvania, and though you (probably) won’t find vampires here, you can explore castles, fortresses, botanical gardens, museums and parks. Cluj-Napoca has a vibrant arts scene that embraces both the traditional and the progressive. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy classical concerts, theatrical performances, puppet shows and music of every genre, from jazz to modern pop to electronica.

St. Michael's Church

Reviewed By Pigman58 - Paphos, Cyprus

A large church in the centre of the city, which I would guess is the spiritual heart of the Hungarian community. The stained glass is quite nice, but appears to be 20th century. Some wall paintings survive, but not the most outstanding church I've seen.

Botanical Garden

Reviewed By Pink - Doncaster, England

On a snowy February afternoon there's plenty of botanics but no garden. This was expected to an extent however, the greenhouse was closed. We had a fairly quiet, pleasant walk around the perimeter for 25 mins, a quick stop for the (outdoor) toilets and a scan around the museum (comprised of a fairly dull drawing room filled with jars and specimen of plant species within a grand house).
Worth the £1 entry fee to escape the city hustle and bustle but I'd suggest giving it a miss in the winter simply for the distinct lack of garden and uphill trek.

Cetatuia Hill

Reviewed By Marian S - Penang

I suppose it's worth climbing up to the top of this Hill (which is actually called a Park), but be sure you are wearing the right shoes for crumbling brick and earth stairs that have never been maintained.
It's a part of Cluj that could be beautiful if it were as scrupulously looked after as the Central Park, but it's not because it's not.
My impression is that the side of the river that Cetatula Hill is on is 'the wrong side of the tracks'. Worthwhile only to take in the view of 'the right side' from the top.
