Wow - this restaurant was so good that we had dinner one evening and then went back for lunch the following day. Fruits de mer - divine ! So fresh and beautifully presented. Cod and apple - one of the most exquisite dishes I’ve ever tried! And as for the ille flotante- something I’ve always wanted to try and finally did - yum yum!! Staff are attentive and efficient. Loved to be able try out my rusty French ! I would come back to dieppe just to visit this restaurant!

Discard this revue if you will, think 'the guy doesn't know what he's talking about' if you will but I'm warning you that this restaurant is not worthy of it's Michelin star. The basic problem is that the dishes themselves are ill conceived, the fact that the seasoning is non-existent is of almost no relevance! Two examples from the Menu Degustation, the first combining turbot with apricot and secondly a dish of Sea Bass incorporating whole chestnuts and red currants!! These are flavour combinations which just do not work.
Regarding the very poor seasoning this is the first 'fine dining' restaurant where I've encountered a salt cellar on the table together with a ghastly battery operated pepper grinder torch combination which is intended to light up whatever you're grinding pepper over. A good chef should season their food themselves and not leave it up to the customer to have to effectively complete the dish before eating it.
The decor is fine, the service is good, but that's not why I eat in restaurants. The food should be the star and here it's very definitely not.

Bistrot des Barrieres

This restaurant is on the loop of the harbour. It has a nice atmosphere and a pichè of wine for E8.50. We had Lotte livers and seared tuna to start and both were excellent (and very filling). Followed by the fish of the day (E16.50) and plate of assorted fish (4 types - beautifully grilled with light lemon sauce) for E24.50. They were also both excellent. So although not a cheap option if you have starters and mains, the food is beautifully prepared, absolutely fresh and quite delicious.

La Musardiere

We so wanted to like this restaurant. The decor/ambiance is atmospheric; our waiter very cheery and professional; the background music classic french chansons: think Piaf, Montand, Aznavour and many lesser known chanteurs.
Having had a big lunch, we decided to have just one course-and mussels were the first page of the menu. Our pots came out teeming with small mussels and there was a generous side of frites. The quality of the mussels was not in doubt, although they were quite small. The problem is that we have had better tasting Mariniere in Manhattan, New England and many places in France. Whatever sauce remained in the bottom of the pot, and infused the mussels had hardly any taste or flavor. I ordered the Dieppoise version for something different, and there was an assortment of other mini shellfish. Again, good quality, but missing that flavor boost. The frites were fine, but, again, nothing to write home about.
Can't speak for the rest of the menu, although we had some decent sorbet, more like Sicilian Ice. We're disappointed and puzzled. But we do know how really good Mussels Mariniere should taste-and these didn't meet the test.

I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anybody. The quality of the food is excellent: I had a seafood platter to start (which was absolutely gorgeous), chicken in lovely camembert sauce with mushrooms and diced potato as mains, and a cherry-flavoured ice with rice as dessert. The wine, too, was beautiful - crisp white wine, light but full of flavour which complemented the meal perfectly. The bread was very tasty too. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxing, the service very good indeed, as indeed are the prices. I simply cannot fault it and my only regret is that I live too far away to go there as often as I would wish!

This restaurant lies off the beating track, and appears to be a local secret. We went a Thursday lunchtime, and arriving at 12.30 the place was heaving, but luckily they could accommodate us. The catch of the day is presented on a platter for inspection. There was a set lunch menu, but we went a la carte. The best fried sardines I had for a long time, followed by scallop cassoulet and one rum baba between us with half a bottle of Sancerre. The staff is absolutely charming.

had been advised to try and get into this restaurant-and as it was a Bank Holiday had an exchange of emails.a booking was confirmed. on arrival thought good idea to double-ckeck and page was blank .luckily a table was still available.
Quit a shock to see prices charged for wine-cheapest recall was 24 euros-I know that a mark-up is to be expected but not that to that extreme-plumped for good bottle of local cider which still managed to charge 14 euros for-wow...
the food was excellent and well presented.
thought I would be touch nosey and choose strawberry soup for dessert-it was just pureed up with blobs of ice cream.
fish course was excellent-pity no potatoes could be plonked on plates-only 1 euro for ikg RETAIL ;unreal people are expected to have blank spaces on large plates-would not hurt profits that much for some to put onto ones plates.
Normandy is I thought the bread basket for veg??

Traditional food, fresh fish specialties Dieppe, menu € 15.90 for lunch and dinner and seasonal fish menu depending on availability. Evening service until 22h

This is the sort of place where the locals eat. Don't expect the menu to have English translations - go to the quayside if that floats your boat. You're expected to speak French, but are rewarded with an outstanding meal. It's the sort of place where the (French) diners at the next table wish you "bon appetite" when your food comes up, and you're likely to bump into the manager of your hotel on his day off!

We turned up at lunchtime without a reservation and were lucky that there was a table available. The table on the Terrace overlooked the coast and certainly added to our experience. I think another reviewer mentioned the state of the furniture and I can see what they meant, definitely weather beaten. Our table was at a slightly strange angle and maybe it would benefit from leveling up, or moving to a flatter area. BUT... the food was just amazing, especially as we had the daily specials priced at around 27 euros. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted even better, really interesting combinations of flavours and textures. The young Austrian who served us was on an apprenticeship and spoke good English, she was so friendly and helpful. Only disappointed that we visited towards the end of our holiday and didn't get a chance to eat here again.

La Cale

Reviewed By boblecostaud - Dieppe, France

Off the beaten track in Dieppe, near the fish market, this unpretentious restaurant serves high quality and fresh dishes, all home-made. The accent is on fish but carnivores are well catered for too. We all had skate terrine and a mille-feuille of brill, which were perfectly cooked and delicious. The desserts were tasty as well. The chef clearly has a passion for what he does and it showed. Friendly and professional service. Food and wine of better quality and value than you will find in the quayside restaurants. Highly recommended.
