We came here last year but arrived in the afternoon to find limited food options. We were disappointed as it was recommended to us by friends. So this year we made it for lunch which is served 12-2pm. This was by far the best meal of our holiday. I had a giant prawn salad which was absolutely amazing. Others had the fillet burger and cheese burger which looked fabulous and apparently tasted better! It has a great atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. We then got a sledge each and navigated the long run back into town, it was great fun. We went on a day when there skiing was not too good but I would happily have given up an afternoons skiing to experience the food and fun. Definitely recommended this.

This is a fun place to hike to (we came over the Gabuehel, but it's closer from Dienten) and to admire their distillery and try some of their (exotic) liquors. The son starting helping in the distillery at age 6 and started his own "brews"...MoreThank you very much for the very good recomend Best regards from the Mountains Family Rainer

In Maria Alm, Austria for a week we had passed by this little café several times looking at the delicious bakery items and the gelato/ice cream, but not stopping. What a mistake. We stopped one day for just a dip of ice cream enjoyed on their little patio and what service we had! Our waiter was the manager or owner and he took such pride in his products telling us how each ice cream was freshly made with fresh real ingredients. And he asked if it was ok to make our ice cream special and did he ever! The dip of ice cream was decorated like a face with large waffle cookie "ears" with a side dish of whipped cream! He brought us glasses of water with a little pitcher of orange juice which he said was good since we had been hiking.
This was the first of several times we stopped for a snack and always this young man was so friendly making we Americans feels most welcome. Our business was appreciated. It is so good to see people take pride in their work and make customers feel special.
If you go to Maria Alm via public bus, you will see the ice cream display as you get off at the main village bus stop, also within sight of the beautiful church in this small village.

The Wastlalm is a lovely small mountain restaurant just along from the top of the Hintermoos chairlift. If the weather is good, it has one of the best views in the area, down the mountain back towards Maria Alm. The view from the WC window is not to be missed...

Stopped here for a great ski lunch on Sebastianstag - 20 January - when all the locals are toasting schnapps to each other in order to promote their future health!!!
Beautifully decorated new hut which combines a big picture window and fireplace with a big bar and some cosy side rooms. TVs to watch the skiing too. The food was absolutely excellent and the service was impeccable. The Kasknock'n was top notch and the vegetarian Falafel salad (for a gluten free eater) was outstanding.
Tania the head of house runs a good operation here. Big sun Terrace outside too.

We love the Roestis here- especially the mushroom, bacon and egg one. A bit like an English breakfast, but less greasy and much more tasty! We also visited in the evening- they are open Wednesday and Friday evenings and pick you go from Hintertal in a pisten bully, and deliver you back, which is all included in your meal price. They have a different menu in the evening, and the best dishes such as the meat on a hot stone, ribs, pork shank, steak on a hot stone, must be ordered a day in advance. A lovely evening out!

Steinbokalm is situated at the top of piste 29: easy to get to whichever way you are following the Hochkonig circuit. There is a large outside area and inside there is a choice of either the original building - old, traditional, timber built - or the new modern area with a glass wall showing one of the best views of the Alps I have every seen.
Food is well priced and absolutely delicious. Waiters are competent and friendly.
Atmospheric, attractive restaurant and, in our opinion, the best in the area
