Having read past reviews ,whilst in Bakewell ,my wife and I decided to have lunch at Piedaniels. From start to finish this was first class. The staff, the restaurant itself, and the food was really good. This is a restaurant that sets high standards but retains the warm friendly feel for its customers. The food was excellent and we shall certainly be back. This restaurant is clearly popular with local folk and the staff we met have been working there for some years so that says a lot.

We arrived for our meal to what seemed like underprepared staff, without any welcome.
We were questioned to see if we had booked by a member of the staff after we had been seated by another.
We were not told that we had to go to the bar to order and didn't obviously see any instructions to explain that.
We ate off the specials board and were disappointed with the meat when they arrived, did not expect deli style slices. To expensive to the quality.
After Reading some of the review relies we are glad we didn't consider speaking to management.
Would we go again... Probably for a drink and Sandwich, but definitely not on a busy day.

On a recommendation of a local (bus driver), came to give this a try for their 'winter warmer' lunchtime menu. As well as their extensive special winter warmers, there is a specials board so plenty of choice. Food good quality, well prepared and presented. Will certainly return for seconds

Recently had lunch here. Large group ate here and all bar a couple thought the food was poor. Fish was dry....probably frozen not fresh? Scampi luke warm and greasy (battered not crumbed), paella tasteless. Those that had the burger said it was nice. We didn’t hang around for Deserts choosing to go elsewhere instead. On a positive note, staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Wouldn’t choose to eat here again, but nice pub to pop in for a drink.

Hassop Station Cafe & Monsal Trail Cycle Hire

Situated on the Monsal trail near Bakewell. Serving freshly prepared Breakfast, Lunch and Afternoon Tea using local produce. Open evenings during the spring and summer with fresh, stone baked pizzas. Ample parking, disabled access. Counter service. Bookshop, Gift Shop and Cycle Hire on site. Cycle Hire open 9-5, 7 days a week all year round

Reviewed By ORetiro - Cambridge, United Kingdom

We've been many times before and love the place. We hired bikes as usual and cycled the Monsal trail in beautiful Sunshine although bitterly cold. The bikes were fine and the cycle shop service was good. We wanted to sit outside as the little one was still asleep in the bike carrier. The outside sofas were comfy but the gas heaters were out of order, both of them which was quite a problem and the staff were not really interested in replacing empty gas canisters. The food was good, especially the broccoli and stilton quiche. The little ones had a very small carton of apple juice each which amounted to £2.50 so if you have young children bring your own drinks. In the past I have been very impressed with the staff but last Friday was different. They were not friendly or chatty or indeed helpful, not the atmosphere we are used to at Hassop Café. They need to recruit some of the young staff from Chatsworth who are fabulous........

A warm welcome awaits you at the Farmyard Inn, from the Staff, the locals (including their 4 legged family members!) and the 2 efficient, mesmerising fires.
We were fortunate with the advice from our cottage owner to book due to popularity, and even in mid-January, with the snow falling, it's worthwhile. There are not that many tables, but it's evident that this maintains the character of the pub and food quality.
Being a party of 6 and a new baby! an adjoining dining area was perfect for our needs without feeling detracted from the pub. Menu choice was varied with portion size being ample. The staff were great, especially as one of the team was nursing a climbing injury!
Thank you one and all.

Came to the cafe at about 2.00 p.m. Looking for lunch as we had spent longer at Eyam than anticipated. Found this little cafe and whilst it looked a bit ordinary from the outside, the food looked reasonably priced when compared to others in the area.
Don't be put off by appearances! I ordered the lamb pie and my wife the chicken and mushroom pie. It came really quickly and the portions were huge. I like my food but this was bordering on more than even I could manage. Huge piece of pie along with massive portions of cabbage, peas and carrots. All completed by nine, yes nine new potatoes. All appeared to be fresh food, not tinned as previous reviews have stated and we did not have the slightest hint of any foreign bodies!.
I completed my meal with a very large slice of jam sponge and custard.
The cost...the two main meals were £8 per head, one pudding at £4.. and two coffees at £2 each. Excellent value for money we thought.
There were few customers in at the time, probably eight or ten that I could see, but the staff were courteous, quick and friendly if you wanted to have a conversation, but otherwise, served you and got on with things. Toilets were upstairs and clean and acceptable and as you came back down you could see into the very small kitchen area.
Everything seemed to be clean and there was evidence of good food hygene practises in place.
Frankly, I do not know how they produce these meals in such a small space and at such a good price, but I would like to thank them for filling up two weary, hungry travellers in such a fine style.
Would thoroughly reccomend this little gem, but sadly will probably not be returing to the area to revisit personally.
Give it a try, you will be surprised
