This restaurant looks very modest from the outside - it can easily be missed on a side street. However, the evening meal we had - a set of fish mains - was superb. The cod (bacalhau) was superb, large clean white flakes; we also had another (which I think may have been cuttlefish) - again delicious. You'll need a modicum of portuguese to get by but the restaurant is a very relaxed and friendly place. They also serve a range of local dishes - Arouca beef and so on. Wine excellent and good value. Desserts tasty but lack a bit of finesse -never mind! Enjoy!

Got to this place after not being able to visit "Passadiços do Paiva" (hadn't booked a ticket for the day, and there were no more tickets available to sell).
Even though we arrived after "regular lunch hours in Portugal", staff was very friendly and welcomed us with a great smile. The menu had a good selection of local (meat, mostly) products, which are served in very generous portions.
Had the "Postinha", which in portuguese is a diminutive for "Posta", and even the 1/2 serving represented something around 350-400 grams of the best meat. Really enjoyed it!

This hotel is just out of town, but on one of the main roads. There's stressed parking outside, and inside a warm welcome from the reception staff. The rooms are cooly wood and muted beige and browns - very comfortable, with bathroom ensuite. Their breakfast buffets are of a very high standard, and they also serve an excellent typical local dinner menu. Price-wise, a superb value.

After a walk in the Passadiços do Paiva we were hungry and on our way home we ended up in here. The menu is quite simple, you either pick steak or calf meat. We went for steak and one portion is enough for two persons. Four steaks were served with funny shaped fries, rice and salad. It tasted good, the food was served quite quick and the waiter was friendly. We paid around €30 in total for two persons which is quite expensive for Portugal but for foreigners very cheap for what you get.

We stayed at Quinta da Vila. Alfredo (from quinta da vila) advised is to go here and take our time for a good lunch. That turned out to be a great idea!
Incredible and unique place! The "village" the restaurant is in is just like a little "open air museum" in the middle of nowhere.
We had the codfish (bacalhau) and chocolate mousse for desert. It was just great!
And when we were there it was very foggy and a bit rainy. So with good weather the view over the valley must be beautiful so that will make it even better ;-)

Many good restaurants are located between Geopark office and the Monastery, this is one of them. I was not in situation for a large meal, on my own and a bit early for a Sunday lunch. Yet I was made to feel very welcome.
The thing to eat here is beef/veal, you order a plank for the entire table, and potatoes and greens. But they also have pasta, pizzas, fish and chicken. Portions are large and prizes reasonable.
There is no English menu, but the waitress was very helpful to explain.

One of the most conventual and regional sweets from Arouca is “Pão-de-ló de Arouca”, a sponge cake made out of eggs and flour, covered in a sugary icing!. Try accompanied with some great green wine or champagne.

I went to this plece twice. The first i had veau arouquense grilled, a regional dish. 5 stars for sure! The next day i went there again and i had grilled cod with potatoes, 5 stars again, one of the best cod ever! I recommend this place for sure. The real portuguese food experience with honest price.

Talvez não seja o local ideal para quem procura a cozinha tradicional mas mesmo assim é uma opção a ter em conta quando nos apetece um simples combinado, uma pasta ou uma refeição ligeira sendo de destacar que é possível take away de toda a lista.
Acresce uma instalação muito agradável e a Extrema simpatia do staff, acrescendo preços moderados.
