Anticogallo

Anticogallo is a Piedmont restaurant situated in the center of Arona, a few steps from Corso Cavour and Major Lake. The menu varies with the season and the recipes are traditional. The pasta is homemade and in winter you can find the traditional polenta taragna prepared in traditional copper pot. The cold cuts are the result of careful selection of local produce and cheeses are matured and aged by Guffanti, a company that has distinguished itself for over a hundred years for the quality of its products and now, thanks to the partnership with Eataly, It exports all over the world. Anticogallo is born in 1861, the same year when Italy was unified. It has been for over one hundred and half crossroads of trades, the place where they carried out political disputes related to local history or simply convivial meeting. During the Two Wars hosted displaced persons (even illustrious) from Milan. In more recent times, until 2006 it was Ms Firmina to manage the restaurant, well known in recent generations.

Anticogallo is a pleasant little restaurant in a quiet street only a few metres from the Piazza del Popolo. The dishes are varied and interesting - and good! There's a slate of daily specials as well as the normal menu. The service was attentive. The price was around what you'd expect to pay.
Well recommended.

We looked for a place with a nice Terrace & relaxed atmosphere for a lunchtime meal and this was it. Attentive staff, great risotto (scallops, asparagus) followed by a grilled fish platter-both shared. The Terrace is quite crowded but this added to the ambience. Pizzas looked very appetising.

We had not booked, which if we had arrived 10 minutes later would have meant no dinner! Signora Olga found a table for two for us and our wonderful evening commenced.Senor Gustavo came with an Aperitif, a young lady (a member of the family?) explained to us in perfect English, what was on the menu that evening and we decided to take it course by course. I ordered the Fregnacce with Gorgonzola (which was a dream!) and my wife a fish pasta dish which was excellent and more than just an entree. The main course (fish) and the tiramisu to round off the meal were perfect. Signor Gustavo had of course taken the time to suggust a suitable wine and at the end of the evening he brought us each a glass of his Grappino liqueur - fantastic. We had found the restaurant by chance earlier in the afternoon and liked the look of it as it was off the beaten (tourist) track. We were in no way disappointed - long may they continue to provide such good food with a "family" atmosphere. Thank you Signora Olga, Signor Gustavo and family.

Enoteca Il Grappolo

Another amazing evening! We have decided to go for ‘menu degustazione’. It was a perfect choice… an unforgettable culinary journey with lovely taste of the Flavors of Piemonte. We were served with gentle ’gazpacho’ at the beginning, next ‘taglieri di salumi e formaggi’ which makes you feel true northern Italy's goodies. Then, finally, we arrived to the true King of “Il Grappolo” i.e. undeniably delicious Risotto, with an exceptional ‘salsa al vino rosso’. For me, that's the nearest thing to the dream.
The Deserts, were described to us with such glowing enthusiasm that we couldn't pass them up.
The chef is for me…. a Professional who works with a true passion and plays a great role in sharing with his guests the beloved food&wine culture. We ware graced to go for an elegant Ghemme (Il Motto, 2009, Nebbiolo)
I can highly recommend!

Pizzeria Damino

Surrounded by green hills on the horizon with the most impressive Alps , the town lies on the banks of Angera south-east of Lake Maggiore. At the end of the avenue lined with behind the imposing Rocca Borromeo will find the Pizzeria Damino . A few kilometers from the motorway, Angera and easily accessible from Varese and Milan. Near Pizzeria also you will find the pier to reach in a few minutes Arona via boat. Inside you'll find two rooms that make the atmosphere : the first one , the one that overlooks the entrance is welcoming and loving while the second and our " fireplace room " . Warm, cozy and romantic and so named for its magical fireplace 800. Outside, on the other hand a large and spacious outdoor Terrace directly overlooking Lake Maggiore. Also studied in detail with a frame hand-made curtains and suited to withstand the weather and sun . Hospitable and pleasant thanks to the suggestive Panorama : a lovely lake surrounded by a fence adorned with Arona and the statue of the " San Carlone " on the horizon .

After arriving without a reservation in mid-week in late May they managed to squeeze us in which was great as within 30 minutes it was packed with Italians.
The service was exceptional, friendly and efficient and the choice of pizza's was unbelievable. My Pizza Damino was excellent. A total bill of 55 Euros for 4 pizza's, two desserts and alcohol was unexpectedly reasonable. The kids managed to spill some water on a pizza and without fuss they took it away and made a fresh one without being asked. Fantastic!
The location right on the lake front of Maggiore was great as we watched the sun go down. This is exactly what Italian living is about! Highly recommended if you're in the area.

This was a business meal on the recommendation of a colleague that had worked in Milan. I would rate it top end of mid-range dining and as such excellent. The menu is limited but with a traditional 4 course menu, which with the small portions of delicious food are highly recommended. We missed secondi and had to have a cheese course to compensate - which was a revelation, 14 Italian cheeses (one may have been Swiss), they were fabulous tasters that we all enjoyed. It goes without saying the preceding courses were deliso as was the house wines that we tried. The service was great with the staff having good English and a good buzzing atmosphere in the bar and restaurant both of which were filled with local by the time we left. Highly recommended, hope I go back.

Castagneto

Castagneto Restaurant was founded in 1969 in the green hills of Montrigiasco, a small village 7 km from Arona, by Lake Maggiore. It is run by siblings Antonella and Franco Spinella, fourth generation of restaurant keepers, with the help of their mother Franca. The atmosphere is friendly and stylish, with a welcoming restaurant room and a beautiful and cool Terrace with a view that sweeps over the hills of Lake Maggiore and beyond, to the nearby Lombardy.Traditional Novara and Verbano cuisine are blended with imagination and originality and menus can vary daily, according to what the market offers and to the logic succession of the seasons

We stayed at the restaurant's B&B at the same premises. What wonderful people. So warm and friendly. Fresh flowers in the hall. It was a whole apartments...2 bedrooms, modern kitchen and bathroom. A large lounge room and a verandah with stunning views. Spotlessly clean with a large comfortable bed. We went to their restaurant both nights we stayed there. Superb food, service and ambience. Possibly the best breakfast we had on our month in Italy and Switzerland

Ristorante San Carlo

Reviewed By clare g - London, United Kingdom

Beautiful view of the lake and wonderfully presented food makes this place feel very fancy but it was pretty similar price-wise to the touristy restaurants in Arona's main square. There was a very good selection of local beers. I had a burrato and aubergine starter and a beef carpaccio, which is a local speciality. If you are visiting the statue you should definitely pick this restautrant as the food is a notch above (stylewise) anything else in Arona but, honestly, I think you would struggle to find a bad meal in this part of Italy, even in the most touristy areas.
