Ankaran (Slovene pronunciation: [aŋkaˈɾáːn]; Italian: Ancarano [aŋkaˈraːno]) is a town in the Municipality of Ankaran, located near the border with Italy, in the Littoral region of Slovenia. It is less than 5 km from the Italian town of Muggia near Trieste, about 2.5 km from the Italian-Slovenian border, 6.5 km from Koper, and 33 km from the nearest Croatian town, Buje. In the entire municipality both Slovenian and Italian are official languages.

For a while now I thought there we no good affordable places to eat in Koper. They where ether too expensive or too cheap.
But this location is a hidden gem.
Fresh and amazingly prepared food. The host will recommend something for sure...order that. Dont get stuck with the menu. You wont be sorry.

If visiting this place don't pass the opportunity to try the famous black pizza. It's very interesting to the eye and your taste buds. It has a specific fine taste that you will definitely like. Their menu offer is huge and you'll have problems deciding what to offer. But there's the staff to help you choose. Ask for their recommendation. We will definitely get back on our next visit to the coast.

First of all, the wine is superb. You must try his Belo and his Malvazija. This guy knows his craft. It's orange and orange is what wine is all about nowadays if trendy and knowledgable is your way. The wine is macerated and aged in barrels. Heavy, full of mixed aromas, put simply, awesome.
Food is fantastic. Don't expect stakes and chips. The chef really is superb and innovative. Food is very authentic and original. It's a slow food place. Take your time and enjoy.
The setting is overlooking the most northern part of the Adriatic sea; Koper, Izola and Piran and on a sunny day simply takes your breath away.
Highly recommended.

New owners took over a year or so ago, and apparently redecorated. This restaurant is part of a hotel, which has a tempting swimming pool in the hot weather. We ate in the main room at the end of October and there were heaters and a fireplace. A lot of thought went into the decor, which is beautiful, with classical music playing.
The appetizers were adventurous, and it paid off. We had excellent fresh fish with local house wine, vegetables, several sides and dessert.
The Terrace and dining room are perfect for watching the sunset as it is in a beautiful location overlooking the sea, on the road between Muggia and the Slovenian border at Lazaretto. Try it, but call first to check on opening times in the winter.

..In this restorant you wont get the menu you eat what he get a day before... or what he has on his garden...The food taste like grandma's food... And the main Point of this place is the owner Sandi...verrrry special person....like all the place and food....DON'T MISS IT.

Yes it's a bit diffucult to find this place, but so are most of the restaurants in this part of Muggia-Trieste. The road is immediately to the left of the Muggia tunnel coming from the road from Lazaretto...maybe it shows up on GPS...
This place was recommended and we tried to visit on a Wed, but it was closed; then another night but they had sold out of fish at lunch and so were closed for dinner. (So call ahead!)
So we finally went on a Fri night. The Zuppa del pesce, a red fish chowder, was excellent. We also had Grilled calamari, pasta with mushrooms & Mixed seafood grill. We enjoyed everything (except that the main dish was served with polenta, and I am not a polenta fan and this was no different. ) The local white wine was fine. The owner was a wonderful host and we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and lovely paintings on the walls. Hopefully we will be back when the weather is warm, to sit ouside.

We took a mid morning ferry from Trieste to Muggia on a beautiful Sunday morning and were charmed by the relaxed atmosphere of the town. We considered several places for lunch but so luckily picked this wonderful restaurant. The husband and wife team work smoothly to deliver the finest food experience. The mixed seafood antipasto was superb - such choice and flavours. The stuffed ravioli and prawns were sublime in flavour. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the welcome extended to us. My Italian is poor but I hope enough to communicate our appreciation. So sad time did not permit a return visit

This little restaurant lives up to its name indeed. The waiting staff and cooks are the same people: a charming old couple. They have a hand-written menu oustide, however it is best to go with the lady's daily recommendations - if you speak Italian. We had a selection of mussels and clams as starters, as a main we had linguine with mussels and fried calamari. Everything was super-fresh and perfectly seasoned. We washed down the food with a small jug of local frizzante. Definitely recommended.

Location ideale x gli amanti della Carne, dal menù si capisce subito che la fa da padrona, io ho provato della tartara di bovino molto squisita per poi passare direttamente alla fiorentina di scottona il tutto annaffiato da un ottima birra a spina, spartano ma funzionale in tutto. Personale molto cordiale ed attento.

Our experience at this Osteria consisted of good food in a simple atmosphere. The dining room is not decorated elaborately, but the cuisine was better than expected. Although on the night we dined we were told that a couple of our initial choices weren't available, the food we eventually were served was tasty and well prepared.
