The way the Coudelaria Real, we stopped at this restaurant for lunch, we were welcomed by a very nice gentleman who advised us some typical dishes from Alentejo. Lunch soup green beans, kebabs of grilled pork, accompanied with rice and salad and house wine. Very good with the typical flavor of the Alentejo food.

Pork fantastic.
Fish with herbs fantastic
Sardines to die for,
Unbelievable boiled potatoes,
They dont have much english and we have no portuguese (ordering was novel but we managed)
get the house wine (cheap but very nice)
Excellent food served well at a very reasonable price.
Don't miss it lunch or dinner.

This restaurant is in the hotel Convento d'Alter an ancient Franciscan convent of the late sixteenth century. It serves regional dishes to a high standard and is recommended by the Michelin Guide. We had dinner Lamb Stew with Yellow Rice accompanied with the Folha do Meio wine, from Alegrete, Portalegre district, and for dessert convent sweets, of which highlight the Sericaia with sweet plum, a sweet that tastes great.

Me and my husband, Pierrot have found a beautifull restaurant in what was looking like a simple bar. After being redirected to a quiet dinning room, we have been completely amazed by the beautiful presentation of the plates and the fine cooking. Also we have been received warmfully by Carlo's (cheef ) daughter like if we were from their own family. What else to say. Its a gift of life to find a place like that when you are travelling. Congratulations Carlo!! You have to be very proud of your family and your restaurante.

Passei a tarde aqui com uns amigos. Tem um igarapé pra se molhar do calor, naseca, quando fui, tem uma quadra de vôlei e depois disso comi um peixe de primeira com fartos acompanhamentos. Tudo isso num atendimento bom e pessoal.

Perdidos nas horas e pela pouca oferta que existe na zona de Alter do Chão resolvemos arriscar e sair da vila, e acabamos neste agradável cantinho. Ambiente familiar, acolhedor, muito pitoresco, bem decorado e com gosto.
Simpatia dos empregados, e um menu vasto em iguarias. Escolhemos uma espetada de porco preto. Fomos informados que as doses eram generosas e acabamos por só mandar vir uma dose para os dois... :-) muito bom, muito bom... Adorei, confesso que foi a primeira vez que comi espetada de porco preto, ao invés das tradicionais plumas, secretos e tirinhas... As sobremesas são boas... Mas estava à espera de encontrar as da região. Os valores da refeição para dois ficou a baixo dos 20€... Por esta razão, penso que a qualidade/preço está excelente. Voltar ficará na nossa agenda... Recomendo.
PS: não entendo as poucas referências que este restaurante tem, pois estava cheio quando chegamos e para um lugarejos tão pequeno...

Em deslocação pelo Alentejo e num grupo de aproximadamente 60 pessoas fomos a lugar e fomos de forma cortês recebidos . Quanto á refeição as entradas que eram salada de Polvo, queijo e chourição estavam óptimas . O prato principal bacalhau com broa estava também muito bom . O vinho tinto acompanhou muito bem toda a refeição. Muito agradável

Small restaurant with a dining room in the back.
Typical food from Alentejo, delicious, with a great price and a friendly service.
You definitely would not guess it from the outside, but if you're in the mood for Alentejo food it's definitely a great place to visit!
I did it twice... in 2 days.

"A Mercearia" was a old shop that was converted last year to a small "tapas" place and a shop where we can buy local products. We went there in late afternoon for have some small food and we were very happy with what we got!...MoreAgradecemos a vossa visita. Esperamos ter estado ao nível da vossa preferência.

Fui com duas amigas para tentar jantar lá.
Quando chegámos perguntámos se ainda dava para jantar... o servente foi perguntar ao patrão e foi logo "enchovalhado" e quase corrido de ao pé dele. Falou mesmo muito mal ao miúdo à nossa frente e a mandar dar recado quando nos podia ter dito logo na cara que não ou pelo menos não reagia com o garoto daquela maneira... a consciência deve-lhe ter pesado e mandou o garoto dizer que só havia bitoques e fritadas não sei do que... óbvio que depois daquele aparato todo viemos embora!! O homem foi mesmo mesmo grosseiro. Se já era tarde para servir só tinha que ser educado e dizer que já não dava! Enfim...
