Had visited this Resturant some eight years ago when I enjoyed the food. Today revealed a definite downturn in the food but overall the decor and staff were top class. I have a chicken Forestier but could not taste anything resembling chicken in the lump of meat that was bathed in very tasty sauce. (Perhaps we should get used to such tastelessness with the imminent approach of American chlorinated chicken) The Doom Bar pie ordered by my friend was extremely tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. The extensive menu warrants another visit soon.

Just a bit dated needs a revamp and happy staff, plus get with the times and accept cards, it's the future you knowThank you your review, in the last couple of years we have changed most of the decor, keeping in tune with the nautical/ traditional pub feel. Have a chat with the staff they are always happy to help and approachable for a sociable chat, being a bank holiday weekend we may have been fairly busy but always there to help. Following previous feedback we have implanted a card system that was running over the weekend, so I’m assuming you may not be referring to the SailorBoy Pub. We hope to see you here soon

I booked the Tavern for Christmas day dinner after reading the reviews for the carvery. Well I don't know where these people eat to give it such high ratings, because the main course on Christmas day was barely edible. The starter of deep fried cheese was good but that really was the high point. The beef had been so over cooked it was grey,it had no juices coming from it at all. So we tried the Gammon. This was just about edible but the honey & mustard glace was far too strong. Then we get to the vegetables all of which were totally over cooked. We barely eat a quarter of what we'd been served. The Christmas pudding was obviously just a bought in product. The staff were really lovely and were trying their best.

we arrived in plenty of time a party of TEN it was my granddaughters birthday the drinks order was taken. twenty mints later they arrived. in the meantime the order was taken forty minutes later you would have though that the children's food would be first nop not so. by the time all the food was out it was could, one of the party had lamb and had to wait twenty minutes for mint sauce by that we had enough we got a bit of a discount. bad service and poor excuses.Hi Gary, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience with us. We are very sorry that your granddaughters birthday lunch turned out to disappoint you. As we discussed on the day, the principal problem was that you had brought a dog with you to the birthday meal and unfortunately, we cannot sit dogs in the restaurant and being ten of you, there was not room in the bar. This meant that you had to eat outside in the garden as you were keen to keep your dog with you, and being late September with a cold wind, this was less than ideal and meant that your food got cold quickly. The meals did all come out together, but being a long way from the kitchen and being ten of you, this did take a few minutes, as did collecting the condiments. It was such as shame as the waitresses had decorated your table inside for you and you had a lovely long table inside but unfortunately although we are a dog friendly pub, this can only extend to the bar and garden area for obvious reasons. It does state this on the front page of our website, but in light of your daughter’s comments on the day, I have asked for this to be made more prominent. We were very sorry that the misunderstanding ruined your meal with your granddaughter, but as you say, your bill was discounted to show our genuine regret. We very much hope that you went on to have a lovely afternoon with your family, All the best, Team Robin Hood

Passed this place every day when I worked near by. It was always a bit tatty looking so I was very pleasantly surprised by the interior. A good menu of interesting specials, especially for vegetarians . Unfortunately we had to pre order being a large party so choice on regular menu a bit boring. We had booked for a specified time but the food was a slow to come out I went for home made fish fingers from the £ 7.99 lunch menu.to include pudding. The fish fingers were well made and beautifully cooked if a little bland. Few chips, I would have eaten more and a tablespoon of peas to accompany with a small amount of tartare in a ramekin . My friend was a disappointed with the size of her portion on another choice Desserts on the lunch special were ordinary and plain so opted for the lemon and ginger posset which was excellent and paid an extra £3.91 !!!! for it. Random amount so £11.90 in total All the desserts sounded good from the menu and specials apart from fixed price choice of 2. But when we asked what was Chocolate hanky panky, great name, the landlady? significantly undersold, describing it as sickly, which to be fair it did seem so but probably not a great selling point Service was ok if a bit flustered and got the feeling it was all quite new to them. I would go again but only if I could choose from the specials board. Good car parking space .

I had my birthday party at this lovely venue last weekend with about 30 of my friends plus the friendly locals. The entertainment that night was the duo Maggsy and Lisa Bridge who were magnificent. The landlord Steve and his staff were very welcoming and the buffet provided was excellent value. The size of the bar area was great for the amount of people there who wanted a bit of singing and dancing. I would highly recommend this pub.

We visited last minute early Thursday evening. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. They cater for vegetarians and vegans here. I had the roasted vegetable lasagne which was delicious and very filling. Sadly I had no room for pudding. My family members had homemade steak and ale pie and the Hunters chicken which they said were the best they’d ever tasted. My grandson had fish goujons which were actually fish fingers and definitely not homemade which is the only reason I’ve lowered my review stars. The lady apologised and advised the menu was due to be changed as there was a risk of bones making the goujons hence them opting for fish fingers. However all was good and little sir ate them all. He also made it to pudding and had delicious warm brownies and vanilla ice cream. The presentation was beautiful. I would highly recommend this place and advise to book ahead as it was very busy by the time we left.
