Shanghai Circus World

The Multimedia Theatrical Spectacular 'ERA Intersection of Time' has been performed since its debut at Shanghai Circus World in September 2005. It is unique and comparable to the tradition of the Broadway Musical. It is in fact a stunning acrobatic show combining traditional Chinese arts and modern technologies. The performers present Chinese acrobatics, martial arts and dance perfectly in harmony with the music, sound, lighting, and other special effects, which include a water screen. While you marvel at the highly proficient skills of the performers, the story of China's evolution from its ancient past to the future is told. Hence, the title 'Intersection of Time', as the viewpoint of the audience is set in the present between the past and the future. The performance provides a wonderful insight into China's ancient culture and civilization, with sections about Sinan, an ancient Chinese invention for telling directions, soothsaying and conjuring. There is a fantastic section showing an acrobatic program which has elements performed since the far off days of the Han Dynasty (206BC–220AD). With porcelain jars and vats as their stage properties the performers give an overview of Chinese porcelain culture and greater understand of the country's name of 'China'.Modern achievements that are also showcased include Shanghai Donghai Cross-Sea Bridge, Maglev Train, and Shenzhou 5, China's first manned space mission. From these, you can see the amazing development and bright future of Shanghai and the whole country. The 100-minute performance shows not only artistic skills, but also creativity. Aided by multimedia including vision, original live music, sound effects, smell effect, air conditioning and lighting,

Saw a performance in 2016 and loved it. (See my July 16, 2016 review.) On this visit, I was delighted to see some of my favourite acts repeated, plus colourful new routines and costumes. There is no intermission, so plan your bathroom stops accordingly.

This was an optional activity on our first day of tour in China. The whole show is superb, beautifully choreographed and well executed. All actors are amateurs drawn from the nearby villages and the youngest is five years old. The whole show is a superb exposition of the rich cultural heritage and diversity of Yunan Province. The whole show is a combination of traditional and folk art representing the various ethnic communities in the. province. It tells the story of their beliefs, view of the world and living; divinity, earth, sky, moon. There are fabulous dances with amazing costumes. The show starts with the drums; The Dawn of Life, followed by act one, representing the Sun, again drums by different communities. Act two is earth represented by dance by different communities. Act three is representation of homeland by Yi minority group. Act four is pilgrimage mainly Tibetan. Final is the Spirit of Peacock dance. The show lasts 90 minutes. You wouldn't realise the passing of the time. You are allowed to take pictures without flash but no video recording allowed. But you will be too mesmerised to remember to take photos.

Truly stunning and breathtaking production!!! The production design was one of the most beautiful and impressive I’ve seen, the choreography and acrobatics are absolutely spectacular, and the amazing performers really deliver with 200% effort and passion. There were some parts that were a little cringeworthy (where performers look they may be hurting themselves), but overall my husband and I really enjoyed the show. There are tons of tourists there, but it was a great time! Highly recommend if you have a free evening in Beijing!!

Shu Feng Ya Yun Sichuan Opera

My girlfriend & I attended the Shufengyayun Theatre Opera after a long day of sightseeing. Our VIP tickets were organised by our guide Daniel from “Tours by Locals” and we had front row seats, amazing. We had enough time to both have a quick shoulder massage before the show began. The show was in many parts and included -traditional music & singing, acrobats, shadow play, puppet play, face & costume changing and two skits, one of which I couldn’t understand. I loved the second skit even though I couldn’t understand it. We had Chinese tea which wasn’t to my taste and some snacks were on a table between us. The show went from 8-9:30. It was an enjoyable experience and I would highly recommend the VIP package.
