At the Malta Falconry Centre, we offer a unique experience – the thrill of the Falconry art. This falconry experience is given in a course style. This experience is offered in two ways; a half day experience or full day experience, are offered. The half day introduces the participant to the basics of falconry and gets to know how falconry birds are trained from 9.30 till 12.30 The full day experience enables the participant to get to know more as regarding the falconry techniques and would also have enough time to fly a bird of prey after learning how to train these birds. A participation certificate is given at completion of such course from 9.30 till 14.30. (Summer Time 8:30 till 13:30) All around the year This experience is offered to all ages. Children are to be accompanied by one adult (both adult and child/ren are to pay for the experience). Pre-booking by email is needed giving the name/s of the participant/s and the date on which the experience is to be carried out. No experience could be held without pre-booking. All participants are to be on time as to have the experience carried out on schedule.

I always feel ambivalent about animals in captivity, but you can tell the owners really care about their charges here and are focused on their welfare. We were told on arriving that there would be no displays that day, but that we could pet the birds instead, which is just what I wanted. We got to get up close to an adorable little owl, thanks to the son of the owner, who took us aside for our bird experience while his mum was taking care of a group of people visiting at the same time. I have no idea how long we stayed there, but it was a fair while - at one point the owner's son gave us a barn own to hold as well, and on both occasions chatted to us about the various birds in residence. We were fascinated with the place; they have some amazing birds here.

Koperattiva Rurali Manikata has developed a Rural Heritage Trail along the fields of its farmer members, in the peaceful, picturesque area of Manikata. Along the trail visitors can walk through fields and learn about agriculture, local trees and flora and visit the historical and archaeological remains found in the area. These include a World War II pillbox, a small Roman tomb and a medieval village which is being restored by the cooperative. Food tasting of typical local products and fresh fruit are also served in our picnic areas. Only group visits of 10 or more persons are accepted and pre booking is necessary.

I visited this reserve a few weeks ago with my boyfriend while on holidays from Ireland. The reserve paths and hides are very well laid out with lovely views over the wetland of hundreds of dragonflies dancing about, with a wide variety of birds to be seen. Our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable and lent us a binoculars to use. He also gave tips on what and where to look to spot various wildlife. Despite the small size of the reserve, in the relatively short time we spent there we saw a chameleon, many geckos along the stone walls, a kingfisher, grey heron, little egret, teal and heard a water rail, along with a few other species. It is hard to believe this reserve was once waste ground and it is a credit to the volunteers who are doing a fantastic job, so important in a country where sadly there is so much illegal shooting of birds. Get off the bus at Xemxija stop "Roti" and follow the brown signs for the "Roman Road" up the hill. This first part is quite steep but it's not far and is the hardest part of the walk. You're heading into open countryside - no shops - so take water, and food if you want to stop and picnic. Once you are up the hill there are lovely views across the countryside and interesting flora and fauna. Of note is the 1,000 year old carob tree - the oldest on the islands. We found the trail for the most part fairly well signed and easy to follow, but we did consult Google maps a couple of times later on in the walk where tracks intersected. As an added bonus to a pleasant walk there are lots of historic sites en route, with information boards. Take the chance to visit Roman apiaries, Neolithic tombs and a farmer's rustic hut; and cave dwellings which were used from Punic times to the 1930s. We did find some of the lower, wetter parts of the trail muddy - churned up by off-road bikers. Generally easy walking - walking shoes recommended as the tracks are stony and uneven. A really enjoyable walk.

Salina is open for visits on all days. Visitors may walk through part of the park freely Monday to Sunday 6:30am-8pm. Visitors who wish to learn more about the Park may visit from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm and on Sundays between 10am and 4pm, when the Visitors’ Reception Centre will be open. On most times, staff may be able to assist visitors and answer any questions.

The Dingli Cliffs, the highest point in Malta (280 meters), provide spectacular views of the surrounding cliffs and the sea below. There is a small chapel and a lookout building and beautiful wildflowers—bright red poppies, yellow daisies, and purple honeysuckle. The nearby village of Dingli has picturesque old houses with brightly-colored wooden balconies in red, blue, and green. Great photo opportunities!

After being very shocked by the bird-hunting habits in Gozo & Malta (this is a horrific and unnecessary "sport" that really spoils the peace of walks, can be dangerous and is to say the least a very cruel practice), we really felt the need to visit this little sanctuary and support the people who work hard here. The visit is (half way) around a little lake, of which the highlight was seeing two chameleons (thanks to other visitors as they are difficult to spot of course). We enjoyed our short albeit pleasant walk
