Todai-ji Temple

Reviewed By Krubee - Singapore, Singapore

After a leisurely and fun stroll in Nara Park with my memorable deer encounters the pinnacle of my journey is the Great Todai-ji temple (Great Eastern Temple), one of the 7 Great Temples in Japan built in the 8th century. Located at the Northern Park of Nara Park. At its entrance stands Nandaimon Gate with two huge sculptures of Guardians. Its Great Buddha Hall at the center of the temple stands Daibutsu or Buddha Vaironaca, a giant bronze statue around 52 ft high. The path leading to the Temple including several complexes (Todai-ji museum, Nigatsudo Hall, Hokkedo Hall, Kaidando Hall to name a few). There is a large bronze bell in front of the Great Hall. In the Great Buddha Hall, two guardians who are equally big stands on each side guarding the shrine. Smaller statues, historical manuscripts and fine sculptures surround this hall and complex. Souvenirs and Toilets are also available in the complex. Incense, Prayers and Offerings are also available at the temple. It was indeed a worthwhile and memorable visit here at Todai-ji temple in Nara Park.

Okinawa Peace Memorial Park

About 200,000 names on the head stones. Soldiers from both sides and about 100,000 civilians. Casualties of war. This should be the second site to visit after the Former Navy Underground HQ. It is situated near cliffs overlooking the ocean. Lets you reflect the cruelty of mankind and what war brings.

Usuki Sekibutsu

Reviewed By kimitakas - Taichung, Taiwan

It is definitely worth visiting, or I rather say it is worth traveling to Kyushu to visit Usuki Stone Buddha. There are four different areas, you can see many statues of Buddha, which are engraved in grottos. There are explanations in multiple languages by scanning QR code. That is quite helpful. The area is not very big, and it takes maybe about one hour. In front of this site, there is a field called Stone Buddha Park. As I visited, flowers were in full bloom.

We enjoyed the visit in spite of the windy and cold weather. It’s also a good place to learn the history of the island and the relationship with Taiwan.

Ushiku Daibutsu

Reviewed By Tour53659008514

Having an extra day in Tokyo following business meetings it was quite easy to use Google Maps to come up with train instructions to get to Ushiku Daibutsu. It was a great morning and easy to self guide. There are absolutely beautiful gardens, a pond and the inside of the statue was quite unique with all of its offerings. At one point I just lay down on the grass in a garden and stared up at the Buddha. At 120 meters, he is just awesome! I spent approximately four hours at this venue and could have used another two to explore more of the grounds. With travel time from Tokyo by train you really need to allocated the better part of the day in my opinion. I would revisit if given the chance.
