Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa

At Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa, we want to inspire our guests to let go; try new things, sometimes be a bit silly. Run up a hill or roll down it. Paddle in our icy river, laugh like a drain, make up a new cocktail, sample new flavours, and really have fun. Located within easy reach of Bath and Salisbury (off the A36), only 6 miles from the famed Longleat Safari and Adventure Park. Set in 30 acres of established grounds boasting kitchen gardens, orchard and trout fishing from the banks of the river Wylye running along the hotel, deep in the heart of the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. Ideal for adults and children alike.

Very casual place, amazing value

Reviewed By Pausanias

In years past Bishopstrow was a second tier country house hotel that slipped slowly and gracefully into decrepitude. Its new owners have put some life back into it, stripped away layers of chintzy decor, and have gone for a rather chicly shabby look. We were quite surprised by how casual it all was. I speculate that their inspiration is the hugely successful mini-chain of Pig hotels. We stayed just the one night en route from Norfolk to Cornwall. We had booked a ‘roomy room’ and as members of Small Luxury Hotels we had hopes of an upgrade which wasn’t offered. Instead we were given a newly renovated room on the top floor. It was verging on the characterful with many wooden beams and a rather chinoiserie style of decor. We had an excellent bathroom, with a shower in the tub, and all the amenities you need, even including a Dyson hairdryer. As the hotel is still a work in progress, there was noise from workmen at about 8am as the room immediately below us was getting the full treatment. This didn’t bother us too much as we planned to check out by 9am. Downstairs the reception rooms are seriously stripped back - this isn’t remotely a luxury hotel. There is a pleasant outdoor terrace with interesting topiaries. The restaurant is more of a fancy cafe these days with a dinner menu offering variations of ‘pub grub.’ We didn’t foresee ourselves eating dish and chips for dinner but that is what we did. And pretty good it was, too. A pity that breakfast wasn’t on the same level. We also had a swim in the indoor pool which was a good size and well-heated. A plus point, certainly in cold weather, is that the pool can be reached directly from your room without going outside. Service levels were high and done with great charm. We paid £217 for bed and breakfast and that, we felt, was astonishing value for money these days.

Great small hotel, ideal for Longleat trips

Reviewed By ARead18

Brilliant little hotel above a Wetherspoons. Stayed two nights due to spending a few days at longleat.. considerably cheaper than Centre Parcs! Room was a good size twin and the bathroom was really big! Due to the age of the building the room did have a bit of a slant to it but no issue to us A great feature was having air conditioning which in a old building is rare. It meant we could have the windows closed at night so we not affected by the road noise or anyone outside the pub. Only 10 mins journey time to longleat its in a ideal spot. The pub has a tiny car park but there’s a public one just behind with cheap rates. I would stay here again when in that area

travelers rest in dire need

My husband is doing a charity bike ride May 2022, and following a mishap of leaving his tent at a stop along the road, which wasn't there on his return, it hen rained, cold and wet, his good fortune was the George Inn which came into view. The Manager and staff, thankfully and gratefully came to his rescue and gave him a bed and a meal for the night. Their actions went above and beyond and we cannot thank them enough. The food was excellent and the bed was warm and cosy. Thoroughly recommend them, we will definitely make a special trip together to experience the food and accommodation in less fraught circumstances.

Quiet night away

Reviewed By 179jackiee

This was the first time my husband and I have visited Warminster. We were pleasantly surprised by how lovely The Old Bell was. Our room was clean, homely and comfortable, and overlooked a beautiful courtyard. We went down and had a drink in the bar, and got chatting to a lovely guy called Cam. We found out that the hotel had actually been shut for over 2 years, and had only recently been taken over by a new owner. We booked a table in the Thai restaurant for later that evening , and were again served by Cam, whom we had met earlier. He was very friendly, and attentive during the course of the meal. All the food we ordered was totally delicious, and we had a lovely evening. The room we were staying in was quite hot, but there was only a small window to open. The next morning at 7.40am we were woken by loud jazz music playing outside our window in the courtyard. We were a bit surprised by quite how loud the music was when it was still very early in the morning. We didn’t stop for breakfast, and checkout was 10am.

The Angel Inn

The Angel Inn has been totally refurbished over the last 18 months, our bar is warm and inviting, soft bench seating, in wools and tartan create a cosy, informal area. The dining area is rustic, modern and intimate with atmospheric lighting adjusted to the mood, traditional wooden furniture with contemporary twists add to what we hope will be an enjoyable dining experience. Our Restaurant is operated by a well loved and reputable Italian group "La Campagna". Real ale sharps doombar and local ciders are complemented by our extensive wine list, of which we serve a good variety by the glass. We also have a great gin selection, well appreciated with Fever Tree mixers. We offer a guest suite which enables a family to stay in two adjoining rooms, with it's own private access for greater privacy and relaxation. Just a few minutes from Longleat Safari Park & House and easily accessible for Bath, Salisbury and Wells, the Angel Inn is well situated for easy access to many local attractions.

Two nights at this lovely inn

Reviewed By probbins2000

We stayed here for two nights whilst attending a friend’s wedding. Wh ate at the restaurant on our first night and the food and service was wonderful. The room was very comfortable and clean. Coming from London it was lovely experience to quite stillness of the village and birds singing. Good Wi-Fi and phone signal. Would defiantly come back again.
