Great room with air con

Shabby hotel exterior but room and bathroom immaculate. Great location for Barbican and walking to town and waterfront. Quiet nights sleep. Air con very welcome as Premier rooms often stuffy. Whitbread still not servicing bedrooms daily despite Covid now over! Also still a later Book in in time of 3pm. All cheaper for Whitbread but not reflected in cheaper room rates.

Lovely room

Reviewed By Beswetherick

I remember when we used to think of the Copthorne as a classy hotel, and we'd stay there overnight in Plymouth as a treat. Now you can get a room for a budget price. To be fair, despite some deterioration, my room retained parts of its former glory, including a ceiling propellor-blade fan and beautiful wooden fittings around the head of the bed. I booked for a couple of nights at the start of June and enjoyed my stay. My room, on the first floor, was spacious and looked out through a lovely big window onto Sainsbury's and the city. Obviously, being over a car park it was noisy in the day, but not in the night. The room had a full-length bath, which was a treat. But that brings me to the snags with the bathroom: the toilet didn't flush properly, and the bath/shower didn't drain properly. The very two things you least want trouble with in a hotel. I worked out after a bit that I could make the toilet flush if I forced the handle up and down repeatedly, as if it was a village pump. But I never did work the bath out properly. In the end I realised it would drain of its own accord over about 15 minutes, so I left it to it. I told the desk about this stuff only when I left, because I didn't want workmen coming in. Poor stuff, though, Copthorne. Otherwise, potentially very good value.

overall the hotel was clean but there was no way of controlling the temperature in the room so it was really warm all night we couldn't open the window because of noise outside so basically didn't sleep very well at all but the standard of the hotel was clean and well looked after in general but after reporting the problems not much help was given we had to sort it ourselves and no offer of the money back guarantee for a bad nights sleep from staff at the hotel but if the weather was cooler then probably wouldnt have had the issue on the basics it is the usual premier in clean and tidy generally ok for the money we do stay in a lot of premier ins and this one was ok but not as good as most others
