Marvellous hotel

Reviewed By DMP007

Good reception staff; beautiful luxe room; fantastic breakfast in buffet; diner also in buffet with a great range of choices; the candle-light-dinner was very good (4 courses, excellent service); the indoor swimming-pool was refreshing. Top hotel in a central location. It was regrettable that work was in progress in the spa/wellness zone. That was really disturbing but when it is finished it will be still better.

Beautiful classy modern hotel

Reviewed By CelineBrussels

The big modern hotel consists quite a lot of different houses/buildings and it is 20 - 25 minutes walk to the historical centre. We stayed for a night in the superior room with a balcony. It is clean, spacious, quiet and facing the court. The bed and pillows are nice and comfortable and pillows. The furniture is modern, stylish and classy. The breakfast room is very welcoming and staff are very attentive. Unfortunately there are 5 guests not wearing the masks properly and the staff might be scared to confront them. There are not enough space for all guests in the breakfast room and some of them are sitting on the hallway or they prefer not to sit inside the room. All in all, I think it is a very nice hotel though my husband said he didn't feel like staying in the hotel as there are a lot of separate buildings and some are overlooking each other. It does make you feel like staying in a high class residential area.

Good hotel, but has seen better times

Reviewed By fraugast

We did not stay in the actual hotel building but in a holiday cottage (large, about 140 sqm.) on the premises. The cottage consists of a large living rooms (stairs leading down!), an open kitchen with attached storage room, two bedrooms, each featuring a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom (one with a shower only, one with shower and tub), a guest toilet and a long hallway with a built-in clothes rack. All in our group found the beds to be very comfortable. The furniture in the living room seemed fairly new and modern and the the ktichen was well-equipped with plenty of dishes, cutlery, pots etc. There was a dishwasher, a cooker and a microwave. The large balcony on the back of the house is accessible from both bedrooms and from the living room. There is some furniture on the balcony and it allows great views of the surrounding area. Everything was spotlessly clean, however it smelled strongly of mould when we entered the house. The open fire place in the living room (wood provided by the hotel) is a nice touch. There is no wifi in the cottage. The big drawback of the cottage is its location, which is about 100m down the hill from the hotel in the backyard of a huge, run-down apartment house. Therefore, if you want to make use of the hotel's spa facilities (or eat in the restaurant) it means packing your bag and trudging up the steep hill leading up to the hotel or - and I am not sure which one is worse - make use of the shortcut (staircase - I am not sure the elevator works, we did not trust it - through the uninhabited, run-down apartment house, which is quite scary. There is ample parking space near the cottage. Walking distance to Waldeck castle and air tram is about 500m. The hotel itself has the atmosphere of a typical 1980-1990s house; furniture, wallpaper etc. are all a bit dated. What really put me off was the smell of smoke that hovered through the lobby, the hallway and the restaurant. Its source was a little bar near the reception, with a capacity of perhaps 20 seats which was completely crowded with double the number of smokers everytime I walked by. The door was left open all the time (otherwise the "inmates" probably would have died of suffocation) and the smoke was allowed to spread through the hotel, which was pretty disgusting. The restaurant comprised a large hall-like room where company groups or tour groups (bus tours!) were seated and a small area separated by a small dividing wall for individual guests. The corner for individual guests was nicely decorated, however all the noise from the group section could be overheard. Food and service were excellent. Staff was very friendly and attentive, both in the restaurant as wee as in the rest of the hotel. There is a disco in the basement where a dance event or some kind of group entertainment was held when we walked by in the evening, I am not sure whether the noise can be heard inside the building, but it was quite loud in the street. The spa is also somewhat outdated and could need a revamp. Facilities in the spa area consist of a swimming pool, a small sauna and a steam room, changing room and lockers. There are definitely not enough loungers when the hotel is fully booked. I think there were about 10 loungers by the swimming pool and four loungers in the rest area next to the saunas. Also, the loungers, though new, are not very comfortable. They are ok to lie on, however they are extremely low and it might be difficult for older people to get up from. The hotel has 60 rooms, thus in the afternoon, when people come back from excursions, the spa area gets terribly crowded. Massages and beauty treatments are also offered. I had a beauty treatment and a massage, I was happy with both. There is a small supermarket up the road (150m), a post office and some restaurants nearby. Parking in the hotel's parking lot is tricky when fully booked. All in all we had a pleasant stay, however be aware that the place has some flaws.

Decent, old fashioned place

Ended up here after major flight cancellations. Rooms have a very comfortable bed and spacey bathroom. The interior design is clearly outdated but well maintained. They offer a high quality breakfast with stuff like omelets prepared on the spot. Service provided by the staff was very helpful and correct. A very decent experience, so recommend.

Hotel Isabel does B&B best

Reviewed By TaxiFaber

If you're looking for bed and breakfast only, in a nice clean and modern hotel-garni (de luxe B&B), Hotel Isabel is a good bet in Bad Wildungen. Isabel is centrally located, rooms are clean and sizeable, many have balconies (in my case very useful for getting the right wifi-coverage) and the breakfast is extensive, though typically German. Lots of nice rolls and tons of cheese and sausages, but no cooked breakfast apart from warm (boiled) eggs. If you're looking for a drink or dinner, try Cafe Schwarze, almost next-door. Hotel Isabel has no proper bar, but from reception I could take some cold beers up to my room. The reception closes at 19.00 but the room key opens the front door too. Another plus: free WiFi. I booked a double room for myself, but as only I used it, the hotel charged me a single room without me asking. Great service!

Great value

Reviewed By NH2001

We stayed here for a weekend to meet up with friends. We were pleasantly surprised as it was very reasonable and the room was newly decorated, small but perfectly adequate. The bed was comfy with really nice snuggly duvets (it was chilly for May!). The breakfast was very good, especially for the price. There was almost too much choice for the space available! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel; the only thing lacking is a nice bar.
