Fairways Hotel Dundalk

Lovely hotel with great staff

Reviewed By dianemD4607NW

We booked a triple room for an overnight stay to celebrate my eldests 13th birthday. We emailed the hotel to explain that one of our party is autistic and easily overwhelmed in busy/noisy environments. The reservations team were so helpful, they allocated us a room in a quiet area of the hotel and forwarded our concerns/requests to the dining team. We had booked dinner for 6pm in the Brasserie Restaurant and they kindly showed us to a table in the beautifully decorated bar area. When seated another member of staff came over to ensure we were happy with our seats and offered that we could move to a table in the rear of the restaurant if we felt the need at any time during our meal. The food was fantastic! I had supreme of chicken with chorizo and butternut squash, it was the best meal I've had in ages. Chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce, green beans and fondant potato accompanying it were delicious. My sister had steak which was also top quality. Our 13 year old got chicken goujons and chips from the children's menu but they served a large portion and everyone was fully satisfied. The room was very spacious with a double bed and two single beds. The decor was modern and beds/bedding very comfortable. Only complaint was that air con wasn't available but it is Ireland after all. WiFi in the room was great, no complaints from a teenager who spent all night on their laptop. Breakfast was plentiful and service was quick. Plenty of staff in the breakfast room and an abundance of choice including the ability to squeeze fresh oranges for juice. The hotel is situated on the southern outskirts of Dundalk town but there is a SuperValu and Costa coffee within the hotel grounds for all your needs. There is no swimming pool or sauna etc. but I did see a health club within a couple of minutes walk. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and am already looking for an excuse for a repeat visit.

Friendly Staff

Called in to here recently with my wife to avail of the carvery lunch. Of course we arrived just as they were clearing away and we thought we'd missed it. Teresa, came over to us and said if we wanted lunch it would not be a problem. We tried apologising for being late and it was made very clear that none were needed. We were seated, made very welcome and not a bother, our order was taken and delivered to our table, piping hot and accompanied by plenty of smiles. At no point did we feel anything other than they really were delighted to have us there. Teresa and other staff constantly checked did we need anything more and they were quite happy to chat with us whenever they were near. All the staff and the service were excellent, Teresa is a gem, and all were brilliant advertisements on how to treat customers. If you're nearby try here, you will not be disappointed.

The grounds of this hotel are fabulous everything was perfect, a special thanks to all the staff for making our day so special. From the moment we contacted the Ballymacscallon in February 2021 Karen was extremely helpful and approachable. I had many questions and Karen answered each one with lots of advise and guidance. There was also plenty of help via email and phone by the reception staff and Karen throughout the months leading up to accommodation bookings special thanks to Linda who I dealt with on a number of occasions. Thanks to the kitchen staff and head chef for the beautiful food we had many compliments. Thanks to Fiona for the diligent planning with the table plans, menu tastings, email correspondences, ceremony and dining rooms organising and logistics. Finally thanks to Olly for being with us the day and evening of the wedding the planning coordination was seamless. We looking forward to returning very soon. Many thanks Regards Edel & Ken

Horrible cold food

Reviewed By Brian C

My wife and I visited Dundalk today and decided to go and have some food .The food was cold the steak was horrible I did say it to the staff but it seemed to go over their heads went to pay for the food and was ignored at the bar for 10mins .When I am eventually got a guy I told him that the steak was not nice and I shouldn’t have to pay for it .The steak was not eaten I took a small chunk of the end of the sandwich and it was then I knew there was a very strange disinfectant taste of it .I tried explaining this to the cocky bar guy and he says nothing I can do about that that’s the way our steaks taste .At this point I knew I was talking to someone that give a toss about the customer or the fact that the customer was unhappy with their food .At this point I just payed the bill of €55.50 and left . Reading other reviews it’s does look like there is serious issues with quality of food and cold food.If you are looking for a place to eat stay well away from here you will only leave disappointed and in bad form .

The Village Rooms

Above your expectations

Reviewed By Tengiene

We had a delightful stay last weekend. The B&B exceeded our expectations in a small town. The home is lovely and well appointed, yet comfortable. Con was a gracious host, who welcomed us on arrival and wished us a good trip back. Our rooms were spacious and the bed was perfect. The rooms are really clean, well maintained and up to scratch. The main bedroom had a vanity mirror, antique dressing table. The bed is huge! with plenty of pillows to choose from and very soft bedding too. Best thing about this room? Huge one room apartment (studio) with a lot of windows you can wake up to the most beautiful sunrise in the morning. This room is very private. Breakfast in the morning consists of a full self catering set (cereals, bread, marmalade, juice). What was a nice little touch is that when we chose to sit in the morning with a coffee and looking through the window watching cars driving different directions. In the bathroom we found a big choice of toiletries(shampoo, conditioner, tooth paste) that was as a bonus to take a full shower and dried the hairs with a dryer. Nearly forgot to mention that there were plenty of boarding games for our kids and it keeps them busy the rest of the evening. Highly recommend this place for your comfortable ''luxury'' stay overnight!

Friends wedding

This was our first time visiting Ireland and we couldn't of stayed in a better place. We travelled to Ireland for a wedding and stayed for 4 nights in the beginning of September in this fantastic family run B&B. The room was spacious and comfy and the shower was more than adequate and better than we thought it would be. There was a good selection and several different options for breakfast. We had the full Irish breakfast and I can't brag it up enough. By far the best breakfast for quality and quantity we've ever had. It was almost an American sized breakfast which sets you up for the day ahead. What made breakfast even better was the scenery from the dinning room.. A truly stunning setting and the the the first of two special mentions to Albert.. for his jokes and his funny trivial questions. The wedding reception was in Omeath roughly 10 miles away from the walkers nest. We drove to the reception and left the car there on the Friday night. Albert offered us a lift to pick the car up from the reception venue as we were leaving Sunday mid morning and had another night out planned for the Saturday. Albert took us for the car and we took it back to the walkers nest. We were heading back to the wedding reception venue for our Saturday night so we were going to call a taxi as we didn't want to ask Albert to take us back there as taking us for the car was more than helping us out, Albert wouldn't allow us to call a taxi and insisted on taking us back to Omeath. Albert would not take any money from us as much as I tried, smiled and told me to buy my girlfriend a drink knowing full well I was going to do that anyway. Geraldine and Albert and the family that we met during our stay were all genuine lovely people who couldn't do enough for us. A fantastic stay in the stunning Irish countryside. We loved our stay and we hope to return and and when we do we will definitely want to stay here. Thanks Gareth and Louise
