Holiday Inn-John Savage....The Team
Reviewed By Travis WWell, I stayed at the Holiday Inn on John Savage for the week of March Break for Business travel. Frankly, I do not know how the staff maintained the premises so well. Sure with the place loaded with kids, there was a little child having fun noise but nothing that kept me from sleeping well, or a distraction from my work. Kudos to the Hotel team for dealing with the "onslaught" on families so well.....remarkable job under extreme circumstances....(JOAN!!!!!) Funny, even during the amazingly hectic times, Joan and her team had left me a lovely note and welcoming treat. As a business traveler who stays in LOTS and LOTS of hotels...it really means a lot when you can come "home" at night to a welcoming friendly and professional family. I can't applaud the team and amazing leadership at Holiday Inn on John Savage enough. As for me, and because of the awesome teamwork at Holiday Inn on John Savage, our Company (over 200 employees in 4 eastern Provinces) have selected Holiday Inn as our preferred "away from home family". I just left Holiday Inn Dieppe where we now hold all our manager's meetings and all managers stay there for the days of the meetings. It was all because of Michelle's and Joan's wonderful leadership and excellent customer service over the years I have been coming. Finally, on my way home, I had to overnight in Dartmouth due to flight restrictions just last night. Did I stay out by the Airport which was WAY more convenient? NO. I stayed with my family away from home in Dartmouth who, though I was only staying one quick night, still remembered me! Always with a note and a treat. Amazing customer service. So, Michelle, Joan, and the team..... thank You for making my business travels such a pleasant experience. Finally, for a business traveler who stays in many hotels all over Canada and primarily in Eastern Canada.....there are certainly lessons in customer service that can be gleaned from the John Savage Team........... I'll see you folks again soon! Thank-You so much!

The room was clean enough, but the tub had dirt and mildew around the edges--it just needed a scrubbing brush and a bit of elbow grease. One bed had a fitted sheet that was the wrong size so it kept coming off. The first day's breakfast was adequate, though the oatmeal was runny and unappetizing. On the second day, the omelettes and sausages were lousy, and the waffle machines didn't always seem to work (it wasn't just me--I saw another person having trouble). All in all, not a great stay. If you book, be aware that kids' sport teams may favour this location. There were tons of kids there on the weekend, but we didn't hear them in our room. We did, however, decide against swimming since there was a large group of boys playing in the pool.

A Disappointment
Reviewed By ScaevulusThis had been our hotel of choice for years, in the Halifax area. After our stay recently, we won't be back. The room was not clean--the bathroom floor was filthy, and even the controls for the air-conditioner were sticky and dirty. Added to that, the aloofness of the desk staff who were focussed on ID and credit-cards rather than any sort of warm greeting, made our stay most unpleasant. And did I mention the barking dogs down the hall? Apparently, pets are just fine. No, we won't be back.

Perfect for us
Reviewed By FranklinmacdI cant say enough about this location. They have served me very well many times. Let's get one thing straight. They are located at the back end of an industrial park and they dont offer many scenic views. They certainly make up for it everywhere else. They are literally minutes away from the Dartmouth Crossing shopping complexes, minutes away from the Mackay bridge to reach downtown Halifax and minutes from a few sporting arenas where many tournaments are held. Rooms are reasonably priced and you can upgrade to a suite for a small fee. This visit was for my wife's 50th birthday and I had arranged to have a huge flower delivery prior to our arrival. Unbeknownst to me, someone at the hotel took it upon themselves to bring up some complimentary chocolate covered strawberries. Nice touch. We upgraded to the suite which you can see in my pictures. The sectional includes a hide a bed and the outside deck, even though it overlooks the highway, you can see a lake across the road. Their restaurant, Pitch and Pivot, offers room service, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great service and great food. If you want a quiet hotel that has very clean updated rooms, free parking and close to all that I mentioned, then this is the place to be.

We walked into the lobby through a cloud of marijuana and cigarette smoke only to be greeted by security guards at the front desk. We felt uneasy, but checked in anyway. The elevator reaked of weed, as did our hallway. I went out to grab some takeout and came back to a police presence. It was then that I realized that the hotel was basically turned into a homeless shelter that I had the privilege of paying $200.00 to stay in. I was told at the front desk that for privacy reasons they couldn’t disclose this at the time of booking. Due to the heavy drug use on the property, we did not feel comfortable or safe so we checked out and did not stay the night. I was not charged, nor should I have been. This used to be a wonderful hotel, now it feels like a flop house. I am canceling my Hilton Honours membership, and will never use the brand again for putting us through this distasteful experience!

Reviewed By justindN2556EYWifi did not work on any device. As I was grabbing a coffee I over heard multiple people complaining about the wifi not working at all. The front desk employees were friendly, not their fault. This is a management issue, fix the internet. Thanks.

Ruth to the Rescue
Reviewed By AMsaysI finally found a hotel with a kitchenette so I decided to cook a homemade dinner. Made Pork Chops with Mushrooms and Noodles with Oysters. Worked out well. The hotel attendant, Ruth was most helpful in providing implements to use to cook and then, came to my rescue when I accidently went through an alarmed fire exit door. OOOPS. The staff were all helpful. NIce to have a business centre. The breakfast was a bit meagre, the room a little dated but I left there feeling like i had had an excellent meal the previous night. Wonder who the cook was?

Very disappointed

I have stayed about 30 nights collecting enough loyalty points to redeem for a free night in the Residence Inn side that was to be a treat for my wife and myself. Apparently what you get for being a loyal customer is the crappiest room available when redeeming points. Hanging light fixtures that are missing their shades, basically bare bulbs hanging from the ceiling. Some kind of decoration scotch taped to the ceiling? Dirty nightstand, marked up walls, no amenities provided. Went downstairs to discuss with front desk staff, but got nowhere! I have paid a lot of money to stay here all those nights, but when redeeming points, feel like we were treated like second class. It’s probably time for me to find a new hotel when in town for business.
