Good Stay

Didn’t eat or utilise any facilities at this hotel but my stay was a positive one & it did a good job for the money. The location is ideal, very central, & close to the train station. Check-in was friendly & efficient & the hotel has a pleasing, modern design. My room was on a high floor, minimalist in decor, & had a big picture window which brought in lots of natural light, no views to speak of, it’s not a pretty city, but it gave a fresh, airy feel. Bathrooms are small & toiletries scant & basic.

Convenient location for travel

Reviewed By jgibso852270

We have used this hotel for many years while travelling by car to and from the UK to Italy. It is very conveniently located and the staff are really nice and friendly. We didn't bring a dog this time, but it is fantastic for dogs, if you get a room on floor 0 there are patio doors opening directly into the garden. So you don't need to bring a nervous dog through the hotel reception if you don't want to. There is a huge amount of car park space even if you arrive late and the rooms are comfortable and quiet. Breakfast starts from 0630 even on Sunday, again great if you need to leave early. It's been refurbished since our last visit as well. We had a nice meal in the restaurant and breakfast was very nice as well. Also you can eat outside as there is a spacious terrace.

Not impressed with the room or service

Reviewed By lynnederby01

I arrived and phoned to book a shuttle to be told it only ran at certain times so instead of the 5 euros I had to pay 20 in a. taxi even though 5 mins away. Reception was ok and thought maybe its a cultural thing. Went to my room and not impressed (as per the photos). The stains on the carpet was like that all over the room, the crack in the wall was bad and you can't see the full picture of the dust at the back of the TV and the reason I was looking was the tv didn't have a remote! Then went to have a wash and no soap, you had to use the shower gel that was in the shower and virtually empty. Went down for some thing to eat and the menu in French and that's fine but the bar man was not impressed to find it in English as I couldn't get my phone to work to look myself. Then I couldn't find anything to eat from the smallest menu ever and started saying 'what about spaghetti bolognese' can't you eat that?! I ended up finding cheese and bread on the dessert menu. Again I asked what does it come with as stated 'platter of cheese" he replied bread of course! so for 12 euros I received the tiniest pieces of cheese and the smallest bread roll I have ever seen. There was no where else I could of got food and went to bed hungry. Not once did they try and help me find something I could of eaten

Awful

Reviewed By CharlotteLaura_13

Stayed here for one night before an early morning flight. The hotel is really scruffy and needs a deep clean and over haul. The shower was cold and toilet was dirty. The rooms are not pleasant at all. I've stayed in a lot of budget hotels and all you expect is basic cleanliness which this was lacking. When we checked in we asked to book a taxi back to the airport for 5am and paid for this upfront. However there we were at 5am with no taxi, no hotel staff and a range of numbers to try and call to scrabble to the airport on time - 50 minutes later a taxi showed up. I'm guessing the hotel forgot to book our taxi........After a lovely trip we just didn't need this.

Hotel?! Impossible! Yes, this place is even more absurd than the TV show.

Reviewed By Me7roiD

First off, let me get this out of the way: I obviously belong to the hordes of “plaintive folk” (refer to Mr. Marlier’s kindly worded and not-at-all aggressive response to negative reviews here on Tripadvisor) - you know, the kind of annoying people that insist on staying someplace clean. If you’re also “plaintive” in that way and value simple hygiene, kindly skip this absurd place that has the audacity to call itself a hotel - nay, chalet. Or wait, was it a castle?… The place is hard enough to reach so location would never have been its key feature. I’d booked here because I was keen to relax in the “1-hectare garden” before catching a morning flight from CRL. What a sorry mistake. Upon arrival, I had to call our host - who was mysteriously away from the property (again, cross-check with other negative reviews) but assured me his son would take care of accommodating us. Which he did - eventually. First though, I had to win in a game of hide and seek since his eagerness to accomodate the guests had led him to hide behind a column (?!). Said host showed us to our room - the “King’s Room”, mind you - only the best for us plaintive lot. I’d already begun doubting my choice of accommodation after noticing a decaying pile of trash at the front gate and the state of the “parrot room” right across the entrance - but the King’s room sealed the deal. Decrepid floors and carpets that had not been vacuumed in ages, bedding still bearing fond memories of previous guests unfortunate enough to have used it, tons of dust on the (otherwise nice old) furniture and spider webs across the ceiling. And regally topping it all off: a portable chemical toilet (!) in one corner of the room, and a shower (!!) in the other. The common bathroom was in an even more appaling state. And our ‘host’ for the day - who was obviously the only person present in the house - had the audacity to talk about dinner and breakfast. Yeah thanks, but this place needs a visit by the Public Health department first before I’d dare to eat there. I’ve slept in hotels in many corners of the world but had never seen this level of nonchalance. The attitude was obviously something along the lines of ‘deal with it or leave’. So I called Philippe Marlier straight away and left. Of course, I gave him the opportunity to drown me in a sea of lies about his Covid-stricken caretaker and how he’d been away from his “lovely property” for “about a week” so could not “control things”. As he said though, “no one has died” - and they weren’t about to either, because we were leaving this place like a bat out of hell! We instantly received a full refund - little consolation for the fact that Philippe (& co.) lost us time and money to get to the absurdity they call chalet, and stressed us out over essentially nothing. Of course, I found better accommodation elsewhere (not hard considering all of the above) - but places like this should not be allowed to welcome guests in any kind or form, regardless of how many fake reviews they manage to post.
