Top 10 Hostels hotel in Patagonia, Argentina

May 5, 2023 Esmeralda Fenner

The five dramatic Patagonian provinces stretch from the ice fields and granite peaks of the Andes mountains to the rugged Atlantic coast, where southern right whales gather to breed. A nature lover's dream, it's also home to the sizable Peninsula Valdes southern elephant seal colony and the world's largest Magellanic penguin colony, located in the Punta Tombo reserve. At its tip, Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia, the globe's southernmost city, are popular jumping-off points for Antarctic cruises.

Hostal Malvinas

Great Value in Ushuaia

Just returned from a great two night stay at this nice little hotel. Spacious room was immaculately clean, bed very comfortable and the bathroom modern, although on the small side. Good Wifi and outstanding breakfast. Staff went above and beyond to be friendly and helpful booking restaurants and other attractions for us. Great service! Outstanding value in ideal location in the center of downtown. Only negative was that room was a little noisy.

These are good budget accommodation for the price you pay, the 24 hr desk is very convenient as you will come back at all hours of the night. The hostel is close to the civic Center and bus ruta 20, that’s the one to take you out of town to the lakes or to the terminal de busses. There are a few eating and drink options near by with the Main Street being starting in the opposite side of the civic centre. You can find all the tourist information you need at the civic centre. Breakfast was decent but only a 4/5 rating because the bathrooms need help(ventilation) and I’m sure that’s contributing to the black mould the was on the ceiling on my top floor dorm. Still for the price you spend a few day’s there.

I was in this hostel for 4 days for Skying. I rented a room for 4 people with private bathroom for 50 usd/night(July2019). The hostel is located far away from the Downtown and it is 4 block by foot from the main street Bustillo. The transfer from the airport to the hostel is about ARS 750(july2019). The onwner of the Hostel Javier , willingly booked the transfer for me and it picked me up on time at the airport. The enviroment of the hostel is cozy, young and informal as in other hostels. The room (n°7)was good enough ,although the bathroom is a little bit unconfortable and need to have better heating during winters. The room 7 is an independent but conected cabin compared with the other rooms that are in the main building at the ground level. Room number 7 is the best option there. Due to the location of the hostel, I strongly recommend to rent a car to move around the City and also go and back to and from the Hostel during nights and rainny days (the acess to the hostel is by dirt streets) This hostel is located 10km from Cerro Catedral Sky Center making suitable for skiers. I share some pictures of the room. People at the hostel are quite kind and they willingly can help you.

Our facilities are conceived to operate in accordance with the historical climate of the region, facing north. A protected area with a nice and sunny central garden, it’s ideal for a comfortable outdoors rest. The barbecue, in addition, proposes tasting the precious argentine meat. The social area, with a lot of natural light, has a common room, integrating a living room, a dining room and a full equipped kitchen. This is the place where you can have all the information, daily updated, to plan your journey in Madryn. It is also the ideal place to meet people from every corner of the planet and share travel experiences and promote new good moments. The double rooms are very small and simple. Basically designed for sleeping, with exceptional “La Cardeuse” mattresses, excellent unlimited hot showers, and an exhaustive cleaning every day. It is worth clarifying, that these rooms counts with privacy, but share the bathroom with another room across, showing an innovative concept in semi-private. We can offer two separate services within those facilities, private or double ones. The “double bed", which has, obviously, a double bed; or the "bunk beds", which consists of two single beds, one over the other, always in an intimate atmosphere. The Shared bedrooms consist of a big common room, with an internal bathroom, essential for Patagonian nights. The individual lockers offer a safe place to leave your things while you are enjoying your trip. The beds count with those exceptional “La Cardeuse” mattresses too. In every room, individual heaters allows you to manage the room temperature as you like. The service includes breakfast (coffee or tee, with milk, and homemade cakes), access to the internet, Wi-Fi access code. Includes also, of course, bedclothes and a hand towel.

The shampoo and rinse cream dispenser is not included. The room overlooked the central garden and the only mini window could not be opened. Toilet button failed, would not flush, and you had to reach into the tank to flush. The breakfast included as the only fruit apple, the rest was plentiful: milk, coffee, eggs and different cakes and biscuits. Everything was clean. The rooms are not the ones published in this single photo.

Good basic budget accommodation

Good place to stay if backpacking, a cosy hostel by the lake. Great fresh bread for breakfast and friendly staff. Seems well run with events on. We had a twin room which was fairly basic, walls were thin and noise /smoke from outside coming in through walls/ window. Generally a clean, budget place to stay if that’s what you are after.

DO NOT VISIT

Reviewed By O1806UJl

TLDR do not stay here no matter what. I booked and found Selina through hostel world. Oh where to begin…First, they charge for every little thing. Want a towel? Gotta rent it for 500 pesos. My friend had to pay for a sugar packet for her tea. Also don’t be tricked by the heated pool and gym, a daily entrance fee is needed. Secondly, the staff tried to charge us over triple the amount we booked to pay (at one point someone said 2 million pesos for 7 ppl sleeping in the 10 bedroom room). They only backed down when I continually showed receipts and refused to pay. However, they are still insisting in paying over the agreed upon amount. The staff were also incredibly unhelpful and frequently sent us to closed and dangerous hikes. They don’t know the area, good places to go or anything helpful except how to get to circuito chico which is the most popular driving hike. The staff was also incredibly condescending to non native Spanish speakers even though I’m fluent and have been living in Argentina for a year. Also, I’m not opposed to a good hostel dog however my friend woke up at 1 am to a random cat in his bed on the top bunk. He is allergic to cats and the staff laughed at us. Finally I would love to say that the beds are comfortable which is true HOWEVER we have realized when the cleaning staff turns the beds, they don’t change the sheets. My friend found old socks in a freshly turned over bed that were not hers. Changing the sheets is actually the bare minimum. There are so many places to stay in Bariloche do not stay here. You will get ripped off and ultimately disrespected while in a dirty bed.

I arrived there and coincidentally was birthday of the owner, they introduced me like an old friend, we chated and ate together. Regarding the hostel the staff were very friendly of course, rooms very comfortable, always cleaned. The location is good few blocks from the city hall and few minutes from the airport. Well was there more than a year ago so I think they've fixed the flush of their bathroom. Nice place to stay in Neuquen.
