Reviewed By HARAGOPALWe stayed here for a Night . This is located at nice and scenic place. Rooms are neat and tidy. For morning breakfast one has to wait and service here needs improvement. Otherwise in almost all other Respect stay was comfortable nd the Reception staff was courteous.

By The Way is "A HOME AWAY FROM HOME" for Backpackers, is in Lower Cherrapunjee, Dukan Road. The location is on the main road, just before the Petrol Pump Station (Indian Oil) where the ATM is also there, on the right when you are coming from Shillong. It has 3 (three) rooms: 2 (two) dorm rooms with 3 (three) beds each and another single room with double bed and no attached bathroom in all these rooms.Opened on 1 June 2012 i started it when i met two Backpackers from Sweden while i was an auto-rickshaw driver, they wanted a cheap place to stay since the hotels/lodges here in cherrapunjee is beyond their budget. As i had a free room, so i let them stay in my place. Then an idea strikes to my mind that i should open a cheap place for Budget Travelers and Backpackers. Backpackers started to come and stay in my place and suggested me that i should give a name. Since it is by the side of the road and the cheapest place to stay in cherrapunjee so, i named it 'By The Way'

Reviewed By DigitalisPurpureaI spent about four hours walking round Cherrapunjee looking for a budget place to stay and all the "homestays" (actually not homestays but hotels looking to cash in on the homestay trend) were charging 2,000 Rs a night. I was almost ready to get on the bus back to Shillong. Finally I saw this place and thank goodness for that. Owner is a funny and chilled dude. Rooms are very basic and beds a bit hard but they are clean and the price is very cheap. Separate bathroom and toilet which is round the back of the property but they are decent and clean with the best hot shower in India. A couple of tea shops a minute walk away and some restaurants 5 minutes walk away.

Reviewed By srikumarganesanThe property is located in Laitkynsew which is approximately 20 kms from Sohra. The property is neatly maintained and they have ample parking. We stayed for 3 nights in the executive room and the room was spacious and neatly maintained. The room had a balcony and the view from the balcony was excellent. The bed was a bit hard, it gets pretty cold in the night and We felt room heater could have been better. The washrooms were neat and clean, the towels were clean. Geyser was available in the washroom and one can get hot water throughout the day/night. Food in the resort was good. They prepare fresh once you order and it was very good. A bunch of ladies run the resort and they are always eager to help and greet you with a smile. They even packed our breakfast when we went for seeing the double decker living root bridge. Hospitality was very good and we never had any concerns on that front. This resort is just 15 mins from the double decker living root bridges parking and it is a very good place to stay for seeing the bridges. The only concern for this place is accessibility, the last 12 kms in the road from Sohra is very bad and it may take 1 hour to reach Sohra. Depending on the time of the year there may not be many places to see around the resort and one has to take the driving time into consideration. But if you want to have a quiet vacation and want to explore around the area then this is definitely the place.

Worst hostel experience ever
Reviewed By Esmée dMost terrible hostel I ever stayed at. The owner is very rude. I have never experienced something like this. They never clean the beadsheets and they are very dirty including holes in the sheets. No Nice chill area. There are 2 other hostels in Shillong (Shillong dormitory and budget rooms near police Bazar) I higly recommend checking these out. Or accept you’re overpaying for a really terrible experience.

Reviewed By dhruvk246Very clean and comfortable rooms at this vintage homestay. Darrell and his family were amazing. They went over and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable and comfortable . Truly enjoyed the fresh and hot home cooked breakfast. They even helped us with out itinerary as they know the place well. Will highly recommend this Homestay for anyone visiting...and they also have Wifi in the 70 year old home!!
