Top 10 Hostels hotel in Kerala, India

May 7, 2023 Almeta Stockton

In this lush, tourist-friendly southern state, positioned between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats, beaches, waterfalls, rice paddies and verdant green hills create a postcard-perfect landscape. Houseboats traverse its many waterways, providing an intimate look at its rural terrain. Rejuvenation programs through Ayurveda (alternative, natural medicine) are popular here; the cool June and mid-October monsoon seasons are considered ideal for healing therapies.

It's not a fair work culture e) Drinking alcohol infront of guests 2) Staff: Untrained staff a) Nobody knows how to speak with guests b) Nobody wants wears mask/Sanitizer c) When water gets over, Nobody refills it irrespective asking it d) basic hospitality/services will not be met. 3) FOOD: As Vagamon remotely located, food is the basic need a) We ordered a food at 8PM, and got it at 12pm b) Morning breakfast/tea will not be available. They say no breakfast today without intimation (Thanks to Winter vale) c) It takes minimum 1.5hrs, even to serve tea/Maggi d) As food is a basic need, this is unexpectable e) They organized buffet, and cost was 500Rs. Trust me, it didn't even deserve 150rs. Felt like they trying to recover Covid-19 impact through food! APART FROM SERVICE RELATED ISSUES, VAGAMON PROPERTY IS ONE OF THE BEST ZOSTEL PROPERTY WITH REGARD TO INFRASTRUCTURE, LOCATION, IN-HOUSE GAMING ETC.... ALL IT NEEDS IS, A MANAGER TO ENSURE SMOOTH RUNNING OF BUSINESS/SERVICE.

Zostel Varkala

Pastel green and blue building with a horde of coconut trees on three sides and the Arabian Sea in the front, Zostel Varkala is a backpacking hostel dotted with pretty spaces. It provides a kickass sea view from the rooftop and all the rooms. A chirpy reception welcomes you into the hostel, where you’ll be guided further with elaborate and vivid wall art that paints the lives of men and women on its salty shores. A veranda circles all the rooms here, giving you the mandatory balcony space to watch the sun go down or play a game of catch. The rooftop is a fancy business, with patio loungers and ample spots to work, snack, paint, and create. Facilitated with mixed dorms, female dorms, and privates alike, the rooms follow a rustic wooden sense of design and tag along with windows and balconies that bring in the air and the sun. Backpackers linger over at the rooftop for an energizing game of Jenga and cards or a soothing guitar jam, keeping the vibe warm, cheerful, and very social. Varkala is one of the rare beach towns of India, in terms of topography and charm alike. It brings with it a fine platter of beaches along with a lighthouse, a fort, and umpteen roads laced with coconut and palm trees. Surfers and parasailers make its shores an aquatic playground, whereas jolly backpackers and hippies linger over by the cliff, trying scrumptious seafood and shopping dreamcatchers. Sunrises and sunsets bring out the violets and crimsons in otherwise shy skies here, whereas night-time is a treasure trove of constellations.

It was my 2nd time staying at the Zostel Wayanad. That was a good experience. Every time you have a stay at Zostel, anything Zostel will give you back as a surprise. This time, Prince(The Caretaker of the Zostel) and Jackie(Dog). Jackie is not Zostel's pet. But Jackie Protects Zostel from Wild Animals such as elephants without even expecting anything. If I talk about Prince, he is the 'Prince of Quotes'. He can speak many languages and good guide too. After the Midnight, he organises a campfire with Music. Yeah, he could sing well. I am planning to visit the Zostel again by this Winter season.

The host Akshay and Anoop took care of me very well like brothers. Made me feel so comfortable, Even when the other guests left, they made sure I don't feel left out. Akshay always asked me if I had my food. I will miss those days, probably the best days from my Kerala trip. Will come here someday soon again.

Santa Maria (horrible hostel)

Reviewed By Joeymz

The hostel is not what it looks like in the pictures. The property is very run down, and dirty. The nights sleep is not good as we were disturbed by mosquitoes all night and covered in bites, there were cockroaches running around in the room and the bathroom. The room was full of damp and had no hot water. It got to the point of discomfort we left a day early to go to a hotel. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. The only good thing about the hostel is the location as it is central and the staff which are very friendly.

Budget backpacker hostel

This is now under the name of Lost Hostels. Spent two nights here in a 6-bed mixed dorm. Strongest point was value for money - only 400 INR/night inc breakfast. Bed clean and comfortable, with good large lockers underneath (use own padlock). Dorm room very stuffy with limited ventilation (and no AC), unfortunately my top bunk wasn't covered by the standing nor ceiling fans. Bathroom bit grimy but acceptable. Shower pretty feeble. Decent breakfast included - toast, eggs, bananas, even idli. Staff friendly and helpful and communal areas well used. Apparently new AC is being arranged.
