Top 10 Historical & Heritage Tours in Ljubljana, Upper Carniola Region

October 25, 2021 Trinity Boughner

Slovenia, wedged between Austria and Italy, has always been proud of its unique heritage. The capital, Ljubljana, is a perfect example of this blend of German, Mediterranean, and Slovenian culture. The old town is a blend of Baroque, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau buildings, watched over by a medieval castle. Cut through the gardens of Tivoli Park to the National Museum of Contemporary History for a history of modern Slovenia, featuring crumbled statues of Stalin and a recreation of a WWI trench.

He was helpful in showing us around and gave great local suggestions of places to try in Zagreb.

A day trip from our cruise with Celebrity Cruises. The trip was from Koper a short 90 mins away. The capital was very interesting to go round with our informative guide. The samples of wine and salted chocolate went down a treat. Will have to come back again in the future.

My fiancé and I had such a good time with Jakov!! His knowledge of Croatian history and the surrounding countries was unbelievable, and he weaved in interesting stories and little facts as we strolled along in Samobor or drove through the beautiful vineyards. There was never a moment that wasn’t fun! He has such a great sense of humor and his passion for leading tour guides is wonderful. It’s clear he has so much experience as a tour guide and really is so great at what he does. We felt like we could’ve been old friends with him by the end of the day, and we’re so glad we had this opportunity. It was definitely the highlight of our stay in Zagreb!!

We enjoyed the hidden secrets of Ljubljana tour with Primoz. He guided us to a number of hidden gems that we would not have noticed had we toured on our own. He is very knowledgeable about the city and was prepared with print material to better describe and explain certain aspects of the city, which was really helpful. His manner throughout our 2 hour tour was pleasant, considerate and full of fun and interesting facts. The time just flew. Especially appreciated, was the spectacular sunset that he orchestrated for our pleasure at the end of the tour on Butcher's Bridge ( with all the lover's locks ). Great way to end a very nice tour!! Thank you!!

Our tourist guide Tjaša made the tour really enjoyable and a pleasant experience. We laughed a lot, considering it was a tour on a graveyard but were also impressed by all the interesting facts she knew about the people which were buried there. Slovenia has a really cool history when told by someone who know how to tell an interesting story.

This tour is definitely different for many reasons: - it is run by locals and locals only. We are not only licensed tour guides but have also lived in Ljubljana for decades and know the city like our own pocket. - most of the guides have high formal education, and are glad to explain more also about economy, art, politics, contemporary social issues and how people of Slovenia live today. - the tour is a private tour. Which means we dedicate our time and knowledge to you and to you only. It also means you do not have to share the attention and squeeze with 30 other tourists, which often happens at "free" or other non-private tours. - we are aware of negative impacts of tourism on local environment. We will always present you locally made products and not products of multinational companies and will introduce you to sustainable tourism practices in Ljubljana. - the tour can be customized. - we will not bore you with numbers and years of every laid brick. The tour is also fun :).

Great and informative tour with interesting insights about the history and culture of Ljubljana and - of course- various types of craft beers. For us, the private tour with Peter was a great combination of sightseeing and fun. Peter was a great guide who shared many interesting information with us and answered all our questions about Slovenia, its capital and the art of making craft beer. Highly recommend this tour, esp. to people who are visiting the city for the first time or want to learn more about craft beers.
