This Quinta is amazing! We heard of it through the hostess of our AirBNB. It is a bit off the National 222 so less visited, but it's really worth the trip. We were kindly greeted by one of the young members of the family who run this winery. She took the time to explain the process of vinification of the Douro wines and port wines. The views from up there are absolutely breathtaking, some of the best we have seen in the Douro Valley. Our guide walked us around and showed us some of their olive trees, which produce a divine olive oil (really worth it!) And what about the tasting! We liked every single product that she made us try. Because of the custom regulations, we had to make some choices. Or else we would have bought much more bottles! There are numerous Quintas in the Douro Valley, many of them are more commercial and do mass production. This Quinta really stands out, we see that this family cares about what they do. We strongly recommend you to encourage this smaller producer who offers quality wines.

Since 1988, a new botanical garden with thematic collections and ornamented spaces was founded in Portugal. The Botanical Garden of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (JBUTAD) is one of the largest botanical gardens in Europe (130 Ha), and about 1000 plant species from the four corners of the world can be here observed. At the same time, this botanical garden is specialized in the propagation and conservation of plant of western Iberian Peninsula. This conservation effort will be gathered not only throughout their thematic collections, but also in spaces intended for integration and ornaments of the campus buildings. In fact, the current demands of society are clearly reflected in this innovative garden, with one of the most advanced and innovate systems of information for their visitors. The Botanical Garden of UTAD intended as an example of how any space is good for a sustainable garden. The integration with a constant movement of people and vehicles, in the urban environment of the city of Vila Real, is considered as an example of this purpose. We did the trip to Quinta do Crasto following the road roads from Porto along the Douro river. Only the trip itself is pure gold and deserves its own review. Quinta do Crasto itself is a piece of heaven brought to earth. The place itself, the location, the vineyards, the grapes, its history, the people, their warm manners, all of them are part of this maze of amazing experiences that make up a trip to the Quinta. I can’t praise it enough. What you get is NOT what you expect, it’s times 10. Everything is carefully thought for delight. The visit and explanations are superb, the special care due to COVID is extreme, the food is out of this world, the wine, oh the wine! The wine is tobacco, Chico plate, black pepper, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, peach and red fruits bottled Indian silk. Their people are angels sent to the Quinta to make you feel a king for a few hours. Thank you Raquel and Juana for taking so much care of us - you are the soul of this place and a huge part of the experience we took with us is due to you.
