This restaurant looks like, feels like and tastes like a Michelin star restaurant. After Tim Ho Wan and Tang Court I believed a moment Michelin rating in Hong Kong is a joke but Tate was very good! Interior is very nice, service is professional, and food is very good. Some dishes such as abalone, and scallops even exceptional. Tate is much, much, much better restaurant than Tang Court.Dear Dr_aaltonen Thank you for your 5- Star review! We are very delighted to see you appreciate and enjoy our restaurant’s Interior design, food and service. We pride ourselves on our delivering a unique and memorable experience to all of our guests and we are happy to hear that we have surpassed your expectations in regards to other Michelin starred restaurants in Hong Kong. Reviewed By SolihullTraveller

I'm quite familiar with Pierre Gagnaire's cuisine and his approach to dining, having experienced it a few times in London at the Lecture Room & Library: Sketch. My conclusion to those visits was always around the numerous dishes that constituted individual courses and how many of them fell flat. I always thought that if all that creative effort was simply focused on one stand out plate of food per course, the results could be spectacular. While staying here in Hong Kong at the Mandarin Oriental. my wife and I dined at his two Michelin starred restaurant: Pierre, for a birthday celebration. The welcome and service are extremely good, with friendly and professional servers and there's no complaint about the restaurant and its splendid 25th floor views over Victoria harbour. The menu choices are à la carte or tasting although we decided to choose from the former with a starter entitled: Vegetable, and consisting of one primary plate of tomato stuffed with cherry tomato and mint seasoned red pepper purée, served alongside three side plates of Balsamic sorbet with sweet onion, Rocket & basil bavarois and Tomato soup with strawberry. The mains were Lobster and Beef. Again, each is served with one primary dish and sides, in this case: Lobster fricassée with potatoes, Summer carrots and rhubarb, Lobster bisque, Claw tempura and Cauliflower infused with creamy coral and seaweed. For the Beef, you get a choice, of which I chose a Ribeye with cabbage leaves and bone marrow, Bordelaise sauce, potato ice cream with caviar and a ratatouille. Finally the desserts of Chocolate Soufflé and Crème brûléeHonestly, there just a few highlights, of sides like the Balsamic sorbet and sweet onion with the starter and the Potato ice cream and caviar with the Ribeye. My wife's Claw tempura was delicious. But, the Tomato soup wasn't great and was far too strawberry in flavour. My wife liked her Lobster dish but there were elements she found lacking and ironically, I had the most stunning Ribeye ever, just a few months ago at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in the London Mandarin Oriental, and which made this one seem extremely poor indeed. Our desserts were also a let down. Don't get me wrong, my Chocolate Soufflé looked great, then my server placed a solid lump of Pistachio parfait on top and poured a hot creamy ganache over the lot. Frankly, it ruined it. The side of Papua chocolate soufflé biscuit wasn't very nice either and had no reason to be there. My wife also suffered with an OTT dessert of Crème brûlée adorned with Orange granita, fresh & candied citrus fruit and a Suzette sauce. Why? just all so unnecessary. The plates all look extremely detailed and there's some hugely skillful cookery but there's also the old adage: less is more!!!For this three course à la carte with Champagne, a half bottle of 2014 Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste Borie, Pauillac, water and tip, the bill came to just over HKD5100 (approx £520 or £260 a head). Overall, this was a celebratory meal and we were extremely well looked after, with wonderful views of Victoria Harbour before us and good food. I wouldn't rate it as exquisite, but it's good. We enjoyed ourselves and for that reason it's a four out of five.Dear SolihullTravellerWishing you a day filled with happiness and a year filled with joy. Happy birthday! Thank you very much for choosing Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong and dining at Pierre to have your birthday celebratory. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed our food, service and wonderful views of Victoria Harbour. We look forward to welcoming you back for another memorable dining experience. Having just spent over 6,000 HKD, and furthermore knowing a thing or two about food, I would like to honestly report about this Hong Kong "institution". Frankly, don't bother. We ordered the full degustation menu, and most dishes were either ranging from distasteful to meh, with a couple of tasty dishes only. The cheese dish was appalling - was surprised to have Stilton amongst the choice, rather than Roquefort, but as an Englishman, I am happy to report was certainly not the best Stilton we produce. I guess a lot of people come because of what they expect from some mystique from the restaurant. The environment is pleasant enough, though rather suitable to a 70+ age group. I must say though that the wine pairing was rather good..perhaps not a good enough reason to return. I would also say that the live Filipino band were very accommodating and decent. Oh, the restaurant was more than half empty on a Friday public holiday...say no more!Dear gazzala, thank You very much for your feedback about Gaddi's Restaurant. We are really sorry that you didn't enjoy some of the dishes proposed in our Tasting Menu in your recent visit, which is normally, by the way, one of the most appreciated choice of our guest. As we are glad that you have appreciated the wines proposed in the pairing. We consider every comments from our guest important, with the goal to improve the experience with us.We are sorry that Gaddi's environment didn't touch your heart as it does with so many costumers since its opening 65 years ago and the heritage, the classic French style, all the incredible historical art pieces ad the unique Live Entertainment gave you a wrong feeling.Hoping to have you back at Gaddi's again, giving us the opportunity to change your opinion, my best regards.Michele DrusacchiGaddi's Manager

Two Hands Wines 'Tenacity' Old Vine Shiraz

Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in town. Not only is the quality of food amazing, the staff is also attentive and hospitable. An unbeatable place for dinner or happy hour! Beef Tartar “A la Montmartre” ($188) - Hand-cut beef tenderloin, capers, gherkins and shallots. Alaskan King Crab ($208) - Crab meat & avocado salad with mango and orange on toasted charcoal bread. Charolais Beef Rib Eye ($628) - Juicy and tender rib eye served with fries and garlic butter sautéed asparagus. Add pan-seared foie gras ($98) - Melts in your mouth!
