Larch Hills Winery

Reviewed By calgaryguy - Kelowna, Canada

It has been at least 10 years since we visited the winery, but we had sampled the wines plenty of times. We were the only visitors at the winery, which is a bit out of the way. Signage from the south was non-existent, apparently the victim of a plow last winter. Our host was cheerful and knowledgeable about her wines. We were given a free tasting (unlike so many places in the Kelowna area) and the servings were sufficient to actually taste and evaluate the wines (again in comparison to the half a thimbleful Kelowna area wineries provide). We sampled 7 and left with a half case of very good wine. Our favourite was the Ortega, which may become our house white. Visit and enjoy.

Went to explore the waterfront and enjoyed a walk along the wharf. Plenty of shore birds and a flock of white pelicans. We also some some river otters scampering about. Definitely worth a stop.

McGuire Lake Park

I always make time for a walk around this little lake when I am in town. I have seen the lovely resident Painted Turtles resting on logs, various species of ducks, heard the red-winged blackbirds call and yesterday saw both an Osprey and the biggest Great Blue Heron I have ever seen at the lake. Great place to walk the dog, say hi to the locals and get some fresh air. Oh and the blooming lilies are gorgeous....

The only accessible natural waterfront in Salmon Arm that the city hasn’t destroyed (managed by SABNES for the Nature Trust), this 4KM stretch of level trail through the woods and grassy marshes is a delightful haven with lots of birds and lucky spottings of deer, moose and beavers. Easy to walk or cycle with dogs on a leash (except during nesting). Side boardwalks for bird and beaver sighting offer even more variety. Dandy place for every nature lover, much enjoyed by users of all ages.
