Top 10 Farmers Markets in Okanagan Valley, Okanagan Valley

January 3, 2022 Leida Jutras

The Okanagan Valley, in the interior of British Columbia, is a popular Canadian vacation destination known for skiing in the winter and watersports in the summer. The area's quaint towns and lush vineyards are connected by a network of clear blue lakes and rivers and surrounded by rolling, sun-dappled hills. Head to Kelowna for one of several wine festivals or to Penticton for the sugary summer Peach Festival. To the south is Osoyoos, home to an arid desert filled with rare plants and animals.

At the Penticton Farmers' Market you can find farm fresh veggies and fruits, eggs, honey, baking, preserves and handmade crafts - all grown or produced in the South Okanagan. PFM vendors proudly make, bake or grow everything they sell. The market also hosts a selection of local liquor vendors each week.

This Saturday morning market is a "must" when visiting Penticton or the surrounding area. It gets VERY crowded so I would recommend going as early as you can. You can find free parking closely. The market is made up of a "farm and artisan" side and a sort of "retail" side with a few artisan foods mixed in. It is an amazing showcase of what the farms and businesses in the area have to offer and so much of it is great. From wickedly delicious breads, beautiful fruits and vegetables, and beautiful baked items, your basket will be filled within minutes. It would be a true shame to be in this area and not take in this market.

We go to the apple rest and pumpkin patch, so fun, riding the tracker to pick a pumpkin or apples. So much for the kids to do from petting and feeding animals to climbing and sliding. Lunch in the cafe is always good, with homemade apple juice, pies soups and more. They also have a market and sell their produce.

Easy for people like me in West Kelowna to get to. Better prices than the store, but not as cheap as Summerland. Place was packed this Friday morning. Saturdays the overflow parking is full. Great produce grown at the farm or listed where in BC it came from. Last fruit stand leaving Kelowna before the highway.

It's been quite awhile since visiting the Okanogan area but a recent purchase at a major grocery store here in Regina brought it all back. The peaches were spot on in ripeness and taste and brought back memories of a much younger me spending time out there in the BC interior! Great product and wonderful quality. Thanks.
