Top 10 European food in Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark

April 1, 2020 Sheron Bogner

Reviews on European food in Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark. Copenhagen was once a Viking fishing settlement, and you can still find traces of the Norse explorers here. Visit reconstructed villages, the remains of a 1,000-year-old castle, and museums dedicated to the notorious raiders. Copenhagen also features a blend of modern architecture and historical artifacts such as the Round Tower observatory – a wonderful example of 17th-century architecture. Art galleries, narrow streets, canals, parks, and Baroque churches round out the city’s cultural attractions.

We were very impressed with M&B. The courses were all interesting and, at times, challenging. Strong, innovative and unusual flavours with perfectly paired wines and excellent service from Katia and several others. Stand outs for us were the snack course with the blue mussel creme, the brill and pumpkin with black garlic and the completely unique cheese course. My personal favourite was the stunning tartare though. The 30-day-aged beef and mushroom flavours were perfect with the salty Danish cheese. We added the white beluga caviar, which our servers basically told us when best to add it to various dishes. It was also amazing with the gorgeous bone-marrow-basted sourdough and fresh buttermilk butter. The only sort of miss for me was the veal tenderloin with grilled baby Savoy cabbage and chanterelles (my hubby loved it though). It was well-prepared and tasty enough, but just didn’t have the innovative flavours of the rest of the chef’s menu. A fabulous first night of our New Nordic cuisine adventures in Copenhagen this week. Dear Guest, Thank you very much for you kind words. We all greet and thank you! Katia also says hello and thank you for a very good evening. You are mentioning some very strong courses from our fall menu. My absolute favourites as well. I hope you had a good week in little Copenhagen. Best Regards, Jonas

You walk down Vesterbrogade towards Frederiksberg garden & the Zoo. You pass a couple of windows which are filled with lids/sides from wine boxes. You look up, a simple sign tells you that this is the wine bar / Ristorante Enomania. You then look through the window into a near naked room with a counter, couple of tables and chairs and think; is this what I was recommended? It does not look like a world class Italian restaurant, but do not get fooled by the looks of it.We went in and was warmly greated by the international staff and through a maze guided to our table in the back of restaurant in a cozy room, dominated by a giant wine rack. And let me just say, the food is good, very good. You have one menu to choose from, and I recommend to go for the full 4 course Italian style menu, which is reasonably priced. Then there is the wine. You probably cannot find a better selection of quality Italian wine anywhere in Copenhagen and not just the wine, the waiters knowledge of wine is outstanding.Be aware; you are more than lucky if you just walk in and get a table, you need to book well in advance and that is fully understandable

Wow, wow, wow! This restaurant deserves everyone of the 3* it has sent. The menu itself is extremely expensive , however the experience is everything. The chef created a vegan tasting menu for me and my husband had the Autumn menu. It was 17+ mini courses, all with their own story to tell and sublime flavour combinations. It's mind-blowing how tiny plates of food are packed with so much flavour and power.Every guest received a tour of the wine cellar and a tour of the kitchens. No matter where you sit, you can watch the chef's, sommeliers and waiting staff creating magic. Everything flowed perfectly, the team worked together seamlessly and even the Chef's came out of the kitchen and delivered food to the table. This included the head chef Rasmus. The whole journey was around 4 hours but it never felt like that. It's currently the 5th best restaurant in the world and I can see why. A perfect experience.

We had the 6 course menu - with wine, tea and coffee the bill was 1,885 Kr. We had scallops, freze dried artichoke, beets with green cream, squid, lobster and finished with plums blackcurrant and cinnamon cream with orange strips. The pudding maybe had too many bits for my taste but the overall meal was excellent for the price and lots of people were enjoying it..

Considering the very high rating I was slightly disappointed by the pizza, it was good, but nothing spectacular. What makes Madbaren so good though is the price and the service - pizza with a coke and a terrific cappuccino to go for just above 100 dkk. Maybe not worthy of a detour, but if you are in the neighborhood (and possibly a bit hungover) it is a must visit.

There seemed to be a number of groups enjoying dinner - especially the cheese course wth wine pairings - Mats made this great fun especially for spectators like us! Including wine our meal for 2 was under 1200Kr which seemed quite reasonable for the quality
