Top 10 European food in Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina

August 28, 2019 Janean Rudisill

Find out what European restaurants to try in Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan city, a melting pot of very different types of people who have shaped the identity of each of its neighborhoods. Wave after wave of immigration, along with the porteños’ penchant for looking abroad, have infused each area with its own unique features, be it Recoleta’s aristocratic legacy or San Telmo’s love affair with tango.

Gioia Restaurante & Terrazas

When I have friends coming to visit Buenos Aires and want to be in a centric área, I take them for lunch or dinner to Gioia. The restaurant is inside the Park Hyatt Hotel on a 20th century old mansión, now restored and refurbished building. The floors, ceilings, marbles and doors were kept because every material was brought from France or Italy. So people from abroad find hard to believe it used to be a family home. Goia has tables on a terrace and an exquisite garden, with old trees and flowers. I love the food there and the staff service is impecable. It´s a quiet environment for talking and enjoying a nice meal.

Dobar Tek

October 23rd - 2015 - The menu selection may be limited, but the portions are really huge; I'd say they are among the hugest I have ever received in any restaurant around the world. And the simple Croatian recipes are prepared deliciously in this unpretentious restaurant along San Juan avenue just a couple of blocks from San Telmo's heart. The place is open only from Thursday dinner to Sunday lunch, but it really deserves to be penned in on your agenda. The goulash with gnocchi is a delicious mix of Italian and Croatian cuisine, but the dish you MUST try here is one of the 3 options of Strudel served here. And if you are not sure about choosing vegetable, seafood or meat strudel you may also chose half a portion of one and half a portion of another one, so that you'll try at least 2 out of three. The prices, finally, are quite reasonable and well within the average of the other dining places around the area. Definitely a good choice!

My husband and I came here seeking a change from pizza and grilled meat in Buenos Aires. We made reservations online which was very easy. We ordered a spinach and ricotta gnocchi and a lasagne with beef and pork ragu. Both were awesome, especially the lasagna which had a tangy tomato sauce, rich ragu and a creamy béchamel sauce. Staff was friendly and attentive. Would recommend!!

I am a frequent visitor to Buenos Aires and as such I have dined at many, as well as the top reputed steak restaurants in the city. My dinner at Brasserie Pentanque was by far the best, most flavorful and tender cut of beef that I have had here in BA. I went with the recommendations if my server (Daniel) and was not dissapointed. I started with the French Onion soup and then for my entree I chose the Tournedo, and finished the chocolate mouse trio. Everything was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend that you book a table the next time you are in BA.

For us, we have been going to Buenos Aires for 35 years since our honeymoon, and we had the privilege of seeing fantastic retaurants such as Clark's de recoleta, Au Bec Fin, Gato Dumas, Brasserie Pètanque and others that no longer exist, Pecora Nera represents all the best that we saw in those years. Perfect atmosphere, service, refinement and cuisine at the highest level. Thank you Daniel for these wonderful moments.

St. Regis continues to provide good cuisine and superb environment. Breakfast and lunch are great, especially if you are lucky to have Vanesa or Andres helping you (they are both great). For dinner, our impression is that St. Regis is not at the level it was a few years ago. It is still good, but it used to be spectacular. In two occasions we were unable to drink the wine we wanted, even though they were in the list.

We went for lunch after arriving in BA after a 10-hour flight. We were tired, but wow were we taken care of!We did the whole deal. App, main, dessert, wine. All was presented as a high-end restaurant. They started us with an additional amuse-bouche of chicken liver pate. Not to sound too snooty, but my wife exclaimed 'best ever!' We commented on how much we liked and they brought us more.We had a nice bottle of wine (recommended). And served in some of the best wine glasses ever (and I'm a glass snob...not to start a trend here). We shared the onion soup app, which was vegetable based and served in a 4-star manner (i.e., professionally). My wife had the octopus carpaccio, and really enjoyed it.I had the lamb ravioli, which I only thought was ok. (My wife disagreed.)Nice desserts and little treats here and there really made the meal. (bread, butter plate, petitfours, etc.)The real treat of the meal was the service. First class from start to finish. We strongly considered going back for a 2nd time, but ultimately had just too few meals in town to do so.
