The town is located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Amsterdam in the Randstad metropolitan area, north of the North Sea Canal very close to the North Sea coast. A railway tunnel and two motorway tunnels cross the canal between Beverwijk and the nearby city of Haarlem on the south bank.

This is a cafe/restaurant that is not frequently reached by tourists, in fact when we arrived the didn't even have the menus in English - and that's a positive thing - but the waitresses knew English very well. The typical food served is very nice, we took a soup and grilled meat. Fair prices.

This is definitely the place to be if you like fine dining, fish and a homey atmosphere. We had the 7 course menu combined with a nice bottle of Patrick Piuze Chablis. You sensed that each course was made with a lot of love and passion. We will come back for sure!

This is a hidden gem! The restaurant is housed in the fascinating and spectacular 100 year old country estate hotel Duin en Kruidberg and is located in Santpoort, about 6 kilometers north of Haarlem. So you do have to travel to get there, but it is worth it. As mentioned on its website, De Vrienden van Jacob have had 1 Michelin star since 2006, and this star is more than deserved. The head chef, Alain Alders, visits each and every guest at the start of their dinner to personalize their experience. We elected a 5 course surprise menu with wine selections. It was absolutely superb, refined, delicious....The wine selections were great and for North Americans different from what they get served in the USA or Canada. Also, the price-tag for a 5 course dinner was favorable (around 90 Euros), certainly compared to what people pay in North America. In short, a restaurant that definitely is worthwhile visiting and you can decide to sleep at the hotel to get that little extra heavenly experience. By the way, reservations are required, but if you are unable to make a reservation online, it is worth calling the restaurant directly. So enjoyed everything about the experience...from sitting next to the electric fireplace in comfy chairs to enjoying the company of the restauranteur herself whom I noticed made it a point to greet & chat with everyone. Was lucky the night was not busy as she spent a good amount of time with a glass of wine at our table, speaking English as well, a most interesting person indeed! I would return just to chat with her. The menu was not overwhelming but offered spectacular choices. I understand the menu changes, a real chef's dream, to create with the seasons or availability. Every course was delicious and it was true dining with no rush. There is a large patio which I imagine gets a lot of use in the warmer months. This was the only restaurant I went to in Beverwijk; it was the right choice and I would return again!

My wife and I really enjoyed our visit to this restaurant, the ambience is very nice and the service is excellent. We were also very pleased with the quality of the plates we ordered, all dishes were very well prepared and the food had great taste. Definitively a place to go back or recommend to anyone.

Visited with a friend for a good meal and wasnât disappointed. Great menu and although it wasnât in English our waitress took the time to explain everything and recommended her favourite dishes. Three course and two alcoholic drinks came to â¬50 a head and I considered it good value for the food quality, dining experience and atmosphere. The photos on here donât do it justice. Low lighting and rustic wooden tables with a wall of vegetation and a huge terrace at the front.

This restaurant is an absolute must in Beverwijk. Friendly ambience and staff.The menu is regularly changing and the pricing is always very moderate, nice wines and good draft beers.We go there with the whole family and always enjoy it.During the weeknd hoewever reserving a table is an absolute must as it is always packed.

Enjoyed a superb fish meal at this excellent restaurant that has superb 180 degree views of the harbour & sea area. Outstanding cod and terrific service team. Really great and attentive service would definitely recommend. The Grand Cafe Hermes was a short walk from our hotel. Recommended by the hotel staff and we were not disappointed. Great meals with substantial proportions - the Hermes burger was excellent.
