Top 10 City Tours in Hesse, Germany

October 31, 2021 Kelli Reichel

Hesse (/ˈhɛsə/) or Hessia (German: Hessen [ˈhɛsn̩], Hessian dialect: Hesse [ˈhɛzə]) is a federal state (Land) of the Federal Republic of Germany, with just over six million inhabitants. The state capital is Wiesbaden; the largest city is Frankfurt am Main. Until the unification of Germany, the territory of Hesse was occupied by the Grand Duchy of Hesse, the Duchy of Nassau, the free city of Frankfurt and the Electorate of Hesse, known also as Hesse-Cassel. Due to divisions after World War II, the modern federal state does not cover the entire cultural region of Hesse, which includes both the State of Hesse and the area known as Rhenish Hesse (Rheinhessen) in the neighbouring state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The name of my boutique-style chauffeur and limousine service is "a friend in heidelberg". Many guests of mine told me that this very name is the perfect choice. The stops mentioned under "Itinerary" are possible destinations of our tour. I am more than happy to compose an individual tour, which is based entirely on your preferences and wishes. I was not only born in the famous historical city of Heidelberg and know the area extremely well, but also lived and worked in the US and hence speak fluent English. If you wish I can help you with the organization of your trip ahead of time. You will be chauffeured in a Mercedes S-Class, virtually a private jet for the road, equipped with all state-of-the-art features.

Inclusions: WiFi on board, Private transportation, Air-conditioned vehicle, Parking Fees, Soda/Pop, Bottled water, Coffee and/or Tea

Exclusions: Travel exceeding the mileage allotment of 20 kilometers per hour will be charged with 1.00 € per kilometer.

If you want to visit the homeland of your ancestors, Manfred Pitz is the man for the job! We were in Germany in April 2019 while on a Viking river cruise. While others in our group visited Heidelberg, my husband and I hired Manfred to take us to the Palatinate to see the town where my great-great grandparents lived before moving to the US. Manfred was able to locate the minister of the church were my ancestors were married, and we were able to tour the church, which normally is locked on weekdays. He contacted distant relatives who operate a restaurant that carries my family name, and arranged for a private lunch for us. My distant relatives do not speak or read English, and Manfred served as translator throughout our visit. (Manfred has lived and worked in the United States, and his English skills are excellent.) Thanks to Manfred, our visit was the most memorable part of our vacation. The name of his company, "A Friend in Heidelberg" says it all. He is more than a chauffeur. He is more than a tour guide. He is the consummate professional and a dear and true friend.

The German Autobahn is special for a number of reasons. The most famous one is the absence of a general speed limit. There are foreign visitors who dare to drive on the German Autobahn themselves, while others prefer to be driven. The name of my boutique-style chauffeur and limousine service is "a friend in heidelberg". Many guests of mine told me that this very name is the perfect choice. With me as your chauffeur, you will enjoy this trip on the German Autobahn with all comfort and in absolute style. Since I lived and worked in the US, I speak fluent English. I got my driver's license back in 1980 and have never had a single accident on the Autobahn. Therefore, you can be sure that it will be an absolutely safe ride. Your car will be a Mercedes S-Class, virtually a private jet for the road, equipped with all state-of-the-art features.

Inclusions: WiFi on board, Private transportation, Air-conditioned vehicle, Parking Fees, Soda/Pop, Bottled water, Coffee and/or Tea, Speeding tickets bill ;-)

Exclusions: Travel exceeding the mileage allotment of 100 kilometers per hour will be charged with 1.00 € per kilometer.

You will be inspired how this financial citadel of European trade, with a thousand-year history, successfully combines culture and business, medieval flavor intricate German frame houses and jungle skyscrapers "Bankfurt". And in the heart of the city, on the beautiful Roemer square, with its polyphony in all the languages of the world and Italian palazzos next to modern urbanism, you will again feel the connection of times and eras of this ancient and young city with the Metropolitan scale.

Thanks to the Internet genealogical research has become way easier. Nowadays you have an unparalleled opportunity to trace your roots to a certain town and to explore where your ancestors originated. You might even get lucky and meet some distant relatives. If your ancestors are from Germany, I am here to help you explore the places and points of interest related to your ancestors. Actually, a lot of Germans who emigrated came from the region I serve as a driver guide or better your "concierge on wheels". I am located in the renowned historic city of Heidelberg and my primarily geographical area of operations stretches from Frankfurt in the north, Stuttgart and Strasbourg in the south, Saarbrucken and Kaiserslautern, known as "K-town" by US army personnel, in the west and Würzburg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber in the east. The name of my boutique-style chauffeur and limousine service is "a friend in heidelberg". Many guests of mine told me that this very name is the perfect choice. I was not only born in the famous historical city of Heidelberg and know the area extremely well, but also lived and worked in the US and hence speak fluent English. If you wish I can help you with the organization of your trip ahead of time. In contrast to the famous movie "Back to the Future", I cannot serve with a DeLorean with a built-in time machine, but offer a fully equipped first-class Mercedes S-Class limousine for travels back to one’s past.

It is an easy walk, with comfort breaks, snack break, and is stroller and wheelchair friendly. Private tours, group tours, and layover tours available by request when you visit our website and we answer emails promptly.

My boyfriend and I had a 7 hour layover in Oct of this year and decided to book a 2hr tour. We were not disappointed. Anita was our tour guide who met us at the airport and off we went on train to explore Frankfurt. Anita was very personable and knowledgeable as she led us through the city center to delve into history including rebuilding of city after bombing and seeing some of the main landmarks. I am a foodie so I loved the food market and was able to taste some of the native food dishes like green sauce and this truly amazingly delicious pastry with almonds (sorry forgot but name photo below). Loved that it was a walking tour as it was a great and uninhibited way to be introduced to a new city.

We loved this food tour, it was one of our favorite activities in Berlin! Since it was just our group Liz was able to customize it to our liking. She took us to some of her favorite spots, places we never would have found on our own. We felt like locals and oh man was the food delicious! Liz was very entertaining and charming and even helped us navigate our way to our next activity. We loved every minute of the food tour and highly recommend Liz!
