This is my first review about a fastfood/take-away....trusting the good reviews on TA and the many clients having a snack here, we gave it (Imbiss) a tryCorrect food&drink for an ok price.(Greek salad was fresh and crisp)This fastfood is however more of a meat&"meet" place ... it offers different choices of sausages (OLMA, curry wurst etc)Stein am Rhein is really a touristic hotspot and the "Imbiss" is a good option for a quick pitstop ;)

Arrived at the campsite around lunch and managed to find a table on the balcony right next to the water. The restaurant was very busy but the staff all had a friendly attitude despite the pressure. The food is delivered to your table, but the drinks you take yourself. Food is really good and typically southern German, with a few local fish dishes. They serve local wine and good beer both of which are reasonably priced. Plates are a bit small for the portions. The food was cooked fresh and was lovely. If you are staying at the campsite you will probably be tempted, if not, give it a try ! Oh and guard your table if you get one next to the water you will get asked all the time by people wanting it !

The view over the old city is outstanding. The staff is very friendly but they wanted to serve the red wine after appetizer while we wanted the red wine with our main course. The food is very good cooked and delicious.

We had the famous fish soup with Sauce Rouille, delicious but served in a small cup, a fine carpaccio, and an equally good special salad. Our main dish was fish from the Lake and goose, both well prepared. Most impressive is the care for the guests demonstrated by the owner/chef; when we asked the waitress to instruct the kitchen not to use butter for the preparation of the fish, he personally inquired with us how the fish shall be prepared, and after the dishes were served again came to our table and asked whether the food was prepared according to our requirements. The service was very attentive and friendly. I like the menu which lists only a dozen main dishes, quality beats quantity.

A very nice place to experience the taste of the fresh fish from the lake. This restaurant specialises in preparing a small range of fish in a number of ways. We had a fish grill which had three different types. Very nice, simply served with some new potatoes. There was a nice wine list, including some of the island wines. We tried a very nice, dry white Mueller Thurgau. Otherwise the menu was limited, both in terms of starters (a few salads) and desserts (everything on the dessert menu was in some way ice cream related, except for the (expensive) special - strawberries, cream and icecream for nearly 7 euros. Service was polite rather than warm. You can only pay here with cash or debit card, not credit card.

Gasthaus Hirschen

Gasthaus Hirschen is one of the several restaurants with excellent local cuisine found in small villages along and near Lake Constance. Hirschen in Horn/Gaienhofen on the so-called “Hoeri” is family run, the owner always around helping with seating arrangements and service. Meat, fish and vegetables come from the local butchers, farmers and fishermen. On recommendation by the very efficient and friendly waitress my wife had a Saibling (local fish), our friend a lamb ragout and I had a fish soup and beef from the ox, all very delicious and in generous portions. Although the restaurant was fully occupied, inside, and outside in the beer garden, the service was very friendly and fast.
