I actually had a short wait in line . I ordered a recommended benny, but it was a small portion. It was good but not better than any other breakfast restaurant. In spite of the fact that I ordered my hashbrowns well done, they still came out looking like frozen patties for the microwave. They redid them but they were really greasy with no flavor.I would only go back if I was hungry and happened to find myself in that area with no other choices, but I sure wouldn't wait for a table for average food.

John's Place Restaurant

We opened in 1984 and have been serving REAL FOOD at REAL PRICES ever since. We are a full service comfort diner serving breakfast and lunch.

Last week we made a trip to Victoria BC to meet up with some Aussie friends that were on a cruise ship and had a stop there. We searched for a place to go for lunch on Trip Advisor and saw that John's Place had some good reviews so we chose to go there. When we entered the restaurant I was a little sceptical at first as the guy that met us at the door was dressed in shorts, running shoes and was wearing a t-shirt. He welcomed us in and sat the four of us down. Everything from there on was first class in every way! The food was excellent. The service was beyond anything I would have expected from even a Michelin 5 star restaurant. I've never seen anything like it. All the staff went completely out of their way to make us feel welcome. It's was almost like we were celebrities. They brought us different things to taste to see if we wanted to order them. I've been on a diet lately and asked them to make me something off the menu. It wasn't an issue. They did so and the food was great. The door guy, Rodney, kept coming over to talk to us making sure everything was alright. I have to say he is one cool guy! So cool that when we left the restaurant some of his guests (must be regulars) hugged him before they left. How cool is that!? Our server was great (unfortunately I didn't get his name). When we were finished and leaving the restaurant Rodney was seeing us out and asked where we were from. I told him we lived up island. He said hold on and went to the kitchen. He came back with a loaf of home made bread that they serve at the restaurant and sent us home with it. Unbelievable! If you are visiting Victoria, BC this is a must go-to for lunch. You won't be sorry! We'll be back for sure.Rodney has been with us over 30 years and he is a Victoria treasure. I’m so glad you enjoyed yourselves.

This restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but magic happens once you enter. It is a small intimate restaurant with a very friendly owner and staff. The food was of excellent quality mostly locally sourced. The food was flavorful, but not too spicy. When we were there it was near the end of the day. The owner sat and chatted with us. She also reviewed the menu offering with us to help us make the best choice. Don't miss this one!

Small place with a big reputation... so we figured we'd try it for a special occasion. Glad we did. The food is amazing. Truly exceptional. Decided to not go with the tasting menu (will do it next time), and instead we tried a couple of starters, then the salmon, and everything was great. The kitchen here knows what its doing, the service is top shelf, and its worth the price if you want something special in terms of excellence in food flavour and presentation.Thank you Volenti for your kind words about your evening at Saveur. We value the use of fresh and local ingredients which is reflected in the flavours on the plates, as well as keeps the menu constantly changing so there are new dishes popping up regularly. We Look forward to welcoming you back to try the tasting menu on your next visit.

Even in a back corner, the bar was beautiful and inviting. The food was great and the waitress willing to tell us her favourites. I recommend the Salt Spring Mussels.
