Top 10 Campgrounds in Lazio, Italy

April 26, 2023 Elouise Mccaul

Lying at Italy’s geographic and historic heart, Lazio (or Latium) was the seat of the Roman Empire, and as such is teeming with ancient attractions, especially in the Eternal City of Rome itself. To the east, Tivoli has Emperor Hadrian’s exquisite and massive Villa Adriana. Civitavecchia, today a major cruise and ferry port, has been Rome’s main harbor since the second century. Many pre-Roman sites dot Lazio too, like the Etruscan necropolis at Cerveteri, dating from the 9th century BC.

Fabulous village

Fabulous village is situated in a Mediterranean area of about 30 hectares and delightfully shaded by mighty, aged pine trees. Our holiday camp has a strategic position that allows you to reach the centre of Rome in a short and easy way. The sea locality of Ostia is 10 km away and the ancient ruins and castle of Ostia Antica at only 8 km. It's possible to make use of a frequent bus and metro service. Moreover, we also organize tours directly from our campsite to Rome and Pompei & Naples, as well our Info-point sells tickets for the Open-bus tour in Rome. Our facilities on site: restaurant, bar, pizzeria, ice shop, take away service, mini-market, washing machines & dryers, mini-golf, tennis-, football-, beach volleyball courts, swimming pools, Info-point and internet-point.

Would recommend but check in is slow!

We stayed for a week and had an excellent time. Site is in a great location to visit Rome and nearby beaches with good transport links. Site is well run, particularly the pool and snack bar. Sadly, reception staff were slow and unhelpful, particularly when my son lost his phone. Restaurant was ok, service good but food needs improvement. I was asked to pay a damage deposit (60 euros) but refused as I'd already paid Canvas Holidays a damage waiver. This needs sorting as I was approached 3 times. Overall, a good holiday. Accommodation was very clean and I will visit again.

Not great

Reviewed By wearethefirebirds

Lots of noise from the tennis club nextdoor. Loud music went on and on at night and during the day. The restaurant and minimarket were totally abandoned and closed, luckily there is a supermarket across the road. The train station isn’t far but you need to cross a very busy road with no sidewalks or pedestrian crossing. In general, there’s nothing on site that’s worth a visit.

First the positives. Friendly staff at reception, very good and clean bathrooms, generous size pitches and good wifi at tent pitches (apparently nowhere else in the park though). Shame: pools only suitable for very small children, shop was closed most of the day (in high season), but the worst thing was the disco. Every evening till 11.30 the loudest and shoutiest disco you can imagine, smack bang in the middle of the campground. First part of the evening is for small children whose poor eardrums must have been bursting (great initiative but why so loud?) and then disco. Dreadful.

Chalets looked good, but motorhome facilities very poor.

Reviewed By BrianMPowell

The site is mainly devoted to seasonal static homes, or rental chalets - none of which I can comment on. I was here early season so most facilities (like the pool) were closed. I came in a motorhome camper van. The facilities for those are very poor: two outside toilets (like portaloo's that you'd find at a festival), and only a cold water tap to wash up with. Parking site was sandy - so it'll be a nightmare in the wet (luckily dry for us). All-in-all this isn't really a site set-up for motorhomes - it's more a holiday village for rented chalets.

beautiful sea, beach with lots of space, caravan camp terrible

Reviewed By petrd533

Big disappointment. Fraud. You pay for a 40-50m2 caravan park-guaranteed on offer. In fact, it has an area of about 25 square meters! Toilets and showers in terrible condition and incredibly few for so many guests. More Turkish toilets? In the 21st century? In Europe? Disaster. The waste tank for caravans is very far and more than half a kilometer. Another negative: you must not park your car on the playground, a weak electric circuit breaker (I had to turn off all appliances on to use the kettle, even so the circuit breaker still fell out). Connections very far from some fields, you can not rent a longer cable or buy. Very little space when parking a caravan. Overall, the camp for an above-average price is well below the European average in terms of quality and equipment. Never more!

Peace-perfect peace!

Reviewed By Marie Therese H

Finding accommodation for 15 family members wanting to have a get together can be quite challenging. We found the perfect place at this campsite on the beautiful lake Bracciano. We had five cabins together,a few metres from the beach and lake,so ideal for post prandial drinks! The cabins were basic but very clean. The grounds and views were fantastic. The restaurant was simply SUPERB. I would have expected the standard of food and service we got in a 4-5 star hotel, not on a campsite. Considering there was only one chef, he did a simply amazing job! We couldn’t have wished for better attention. All the staff were amazing and couldn’t have been more helpful. Reception were very accommodating and the staff in the bar kept us supplied with our regular “take away” coffees! Special mention must go to Stella, whom we kept busy with our large orders! She was truly amazing! A big thankyou to everyone for making our family holiday so wonderful! SUGGESTIONS—- would be helpful to stick a few things in the Cabins, like more toilet paper, washing up liquid, drying cloths. Would be beneficial if the bar sold basics such as tea, coffee, milk, etc as none of us had a car. The cabins which sleep five would not be suitable for five adults.

Could be great, spoilt by noise and annoyances

Staying with Eurocamp - who have been fantastic, with a wonderful tent right on the edge of the beautiful lake. Great pitch area, nice and shady and, combined with the lake (or pool), it was easy to stay cool despite some hot days. Restaurant perfectly fine, well-stocked shop, free tennis courts. But... The noise. We had the misfortune to stay during the Ferragosto festival week, which meant nightly 'entertainment.' Loosest sense of the word. The same music, loudly, every night until 1am, which isn't great for small kids - or grown ups - getting a night's sleep. Especially when a tractor dives back & forth past the tent to flatten the beach at the lakeside (so right outside our tent) at 8am. (I know this sounds like an old man whinge, but it's a family campsite, not Ibiza). On top of this, non-Eurocampers have to pay for the pool; everyone has to pay for a shower, there's still no toilet paper or soap provided for basic hygiene. Such a shame as this could have been an amazing place to which I could have seen myself returning, but I leave still needing a holiday - and some sleep.

Loved every minute

I was not sure what to expect as I had never been to a campsite in Europe before. We absolutely loved it! We arrived at 2am and there was someone there to meet us and gave us our key and simple directions how to get to our chalet which was absolutely spotless. All of the staff were lovely and really helpful especially the lady in reception and the 2 ladies in the shop. The food in the restaurant was great and the pool was was also clean. Easy to get into Rome and a nice beach not far away. Our only regret was we didn’t stay longer. Will definitely be back and thank you
