Top 10 Campgrounds in Austrian Alps, Austria

April 29, 2023 Osvaldo Hartline

The majestic Austrian Alps stretch across the country, an awe-striking area of Ice Age valleys, verdant heaths and alluvial cones within Europe's largest national park, 700-square-mile Hohe Tauern. Taking in the dramatic cities of Salzburg and Innsbruck and the beautiful province of Tirol, home to spectacular skiing and hiking, as well as Gross Glockner, Austria's highest peak, and some of the world's best winter and summer sports playgrounds, the Austrian Alps are an outdoor lover's paradise.

Camping and more

Excellent camping with little huts and apartments all year through. Staff is friendly and helpful, location wonderful and close to Innsbruck in case you wanna visit it. We stayed only one night in a family lodge which was fine, but for a longer stay something more spacious and comfy would be better, nevertheless an adventure that was.

Camping & Pension Au an der Donau

The area is like a park and extends like an island below the Danube bank along a natural lake directly on the cycling track Donauradweg R1 (Eurovelo 6) Passau - Vienna next to the cultural metropolis Linz. The adjoining guest's garden is a popular meeting point of both tourists and local people. It regularly turns into a regional cabaret, always conserving the contemplative atmosphere and the gorgeous perspective of the Danube.Nature and culture, tourists and local people, cyclists, people on boats and campers in tent, caravans and mobile homes meet here. Since 2013, we do have cosy lodges and sleeping barrel.

Difficult to fault

We were a pair of cycle touring couples heading down the Danube with a mixture of camping and resorts. The camping here was easily the best on the trip. The check-in was relaxed, welcoming and good-humoured. The tent field was absolutely fine with us being left to find our own spot, this we liked. But the highlight was the toilet block - clean, spacious and efficient. We all loved it. No tokens were needed for the showers. The restaurant is good simple fare; bar food up until 8pm and then pizzas until 9pm we all had pizzas and we really enjoyed them, they were excellent. The pricing is fair, maybe marginally on the cheap side, but we paid the bill willingly. It’s slightly more expensive than many other camping sites on the Danube, but it’s worth it. We paid €42 for 2 x tents and 4!x people with bikes. Would definitely go back.

Amazing alpine apartments and facilities

Reviewed By PK_zoreil_travels

We stayed here during the Christmas period. The apartments were more than perfect, we were pleasantly surprised about the facilities, and the hosts (owners) were incredibly kind and welcoming. The apartment: we stayed in the smaller apartment. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped for daily cooking and included a delonghi coffee machine. The bathroom was great and very clean. Overall the interior was well decorated and very pleasant. Facilities: wonderful sauna area with 3 different sauna rooms. Relaxing atmosphere. Great pool for laps or gentle swim. The ‘sauna’ is kinda integrated with the pool so doesn’t feel like a sauna as it’s the same temperature as the pool. Decent gym, and amazing breakfast facilities - highly recommend getting breakfast here. So many more facilities. Overall loved our stay at the apartments! Couldn’t praise it highly enough.

A beautiful location with scenic views

Reviewed By Ron R

I came to Tirol.Camp because Camp Alpin where I camped for the last 13 years is currently closed. I was not disappointed ,the location is beautiful and my tent site was opposite a very clean ablution block with excellent showers ,wash cabins ,toilets and cooking utensil washing facilities. As it was warm whilst I was there I cooked at my tent and ate 'al fresco' , had it been wet I'd have used the restaurant which had a reasonable menu. I had no need of the swimming pool or sauna as I was there for the Einhornmarsch from Leutasch. A bonus was being able to use the Karcher pressure washer, for 1 Euro, and wash my car in the garage. They could well be seeing me there again next year.

Review is for the landhaus. The campground is next door and run separately. Fabulous experience staying for a week while skiing the Arlberg. Very family friendly. Super clean rooms with excellent house keeping. They beautifully arranged our kid’s stuffed animals each day. At breakfast they remembered our drink preferences and delivered them with a big smile. English was widely spoken. One day we thought we’d lost one of our ski passes. We called Walch’s from st Anton and the owner was able to find it and the receipt in our room, which saved us a couple hundred euro. The sauna was fantastic. Three rooms with the hottest 50 degrees. A great treat at the end of each ski day. The room with three beds was super clean but rather basic. It had very little floor space and a tight bathroom. This explains the reasonable price. We would stay again.

Risky camping: Buyer beware in Salzburg

Reviewed By svtrips

No MASKS!!!! No MASKS!!! No MASKS!!! When we mentioned we are all in a very dangerous period, the older lady doing checkout said that “we don’t use masks here, everyone can do whatever they choose”!!! Many facilities are indoor, such as registration (lines) dining area, bathrooms, etc. They cater to CHILDREN who have no chance at vaccination, and lots of older guests, whom are most at risk. We purchased camping relying on the provider to adhere to federal safety rules, but there are obviously no assurances here in Salzburg. Beware of this nature oriented activity.

We loved it again BUT.....

Once again another fantastic visit to this wonderful part of the world! We felt extremely safe and welcome during covid times, we were well informed and communication was great with the site! The pool is amazing and the toilets are the best I’ve seen on any campsite. I hate to mark you down but I do feel it is warranted on this visit. This time we arrived in rain, both of our pitches were not the lush grass advertised but a great big square of sloppy mud! Not nice walking or pitching your eco friendly ground sheet on mud! We aren’t the only ones who had this problem, a few commented on it! You need to either rotate and allow re growth on the pitches or make them hard standing with built in drainage!
