Met with family yesterday, had a lovely meal in beautiful surroundings. The meals were delicious, the chips were some of the best I’ve had. Most of the party had curry and said it was really good. Two of us had dessert, the Bailey cheesecake, it was delicious. Well worth going here for a meal, I’m sure it won’t be our last. Thank you Mandy and the team.Hi Lizzy Rick, Thank you for your review, we are really glad that you enjoyed yourself! We look forward to welcoming you back to Portmore soon. My daughter and I popped in again today and enjoyed lovely toasted sandwiches. They came with a generous salad and crisps. They also make delicious coffees. We come here quite a lot when we are shopping in Barnstaple. It is a nice light and spacious café with friendly staff and it's not too expensive either.

It’s a cafe. Not necessarily a coffee shop. The cakes, though advertised as locally produced look a bit doughy I would imagine that’s because it’s gluten free. They’re trying to keep the place as rustic’ as possible but forgetting some basics like clearing and wiping tables between customers. Several tables still contained crockery and remnants of partially eaten food. Strange notice stating that “Railway Policy “ dictates that for safety reasons you can’t use the electrical sockets for personal devices. Funny that because their website states that this is an independent cafe. Also the Railway (GWR), positively encouraged me to use electrical sockets whilst on the train. They even supply a choice of plug or USB. On a positive note they are trying to support local producers. A sign states the source of their produce sold. This is very commendable. There’s a sign saying that they are going plastic freed. That is very commendable. I wish more premises did that and wish you well with it.

What a lovely place to stop for lunch. My partner and I had mackeral fish finger sandwiches which were really tasty and we felt the prices were reasonable too. Our little boy had a half portion of fish chowder which he loved, it's not on the kids menu but the staff were happy to do half size portion for him. There is a kids corner too which kept our little boy happy and occupied while we waited for our food and they serve a lovely full sized pot of fresh tea we will definitely be back

Visited at lunchtime and sat outside with our little dog. The sun was shining but it was just lovely slightly in the shade, down the alley where this little cafe is situated. We had delicious fresh crab sandwiches on granary bread with coleslaw and side salad. The coffee was excellent and it was good value for money. The service was quick and the cafe very friendly.Highly recommend a visit if shopping in Barnstaple.

Great place to visit and loved the atmosphere and food. I had the afternoon tea with my Nan and there was lots of it! The tea room was situated right by the river and the large windows meant great views across. We were welcomed and the assortment of food was bought to our table, it included sandwiches, quiche, sausage roles, scones and a delicious selection of cakes.

Visiting Barnstaple by train from Exeter and needed somewhere to eat and thankfully found this place, it was ideal. From the staff to the food, from the customer facilities to the cleanliness, there is nothing negative to say. The menu had a good selection and in the end I went for the fried eggs on toast washed down with a peppermint tea and it was delicious.

Stopped in here by chance for a late lunch after spending the morning exploring Barnstaple. We thought it might be a good choice as it was busy and the menu looked interesting. We couldn’t have made a better choice. We both had the Argentinian steak with chimichurri and agreed it was the best steak we had on our 3 week vacation. What an unexpected surprise. Pleasant service too! Wanted to come back for more but ran out of time.
