After scrolling through a few places to visit whilst in Barnstaple we stumbled across this place. We were greeted by one of the friendly owners and served a couple of drinks. He partner then came out with the chalk board with the entire menu on it, and we were surprised at the variety. I had the curry goat and the Mrs had the pheasant. Both meals were incredibly tasty and the portion sizes were superb. All in all for two excellent meals and two drinks the bill was £29!!! What a little find. Would recommend to anyone who's in the area.

Called in for lunch as we were passing. Thought we'd have a light bite as we'd heard the portions were large. I chose a homity pie with vegetables which was on the regular menu and it was enormous, very tasty and well cooked but I think next time I will stick to the original plan. My husband had the light bite faggots which were delicious but also a large portion. Very enjoyable lunch and would highly recommend but make sure you're hungry when you go.

Looking forward to lunch here as a birthday treat, March 11. Menu sounded great. On arrival stood at bar waiting to bye served. Once the barman had finished preparing a coffee, came over and sit where you want I'll be over. So took a seat, we had reserved, and eventually barman came over and asked what we wanted. Prosecco and G&T. Barman went away without asking which gin I wanted. This is in a bar that prides itself on the number of gins it serves. I went to the bar and asked what gins they had. We have 30 said barman. Oh I said, only you never asked what I wanted. Here's a list said barman. I took it and sat down and eventually he came over and asked which one I wanted. More of the same followed. The waitress was not much better although warmed up later on.
Food was good, service very poor.
To the management, get staff who care about the customers who pay their wages.
Not sure if I will return

We had a great lunch here before driving home...set us up nicely for the 6+hour trip. This is NOT a place for a rushed lunch; very much slow food, and none the worse for that, so don't go if you're in a hurry or impatient...MoreThank you for your lovely review and we're so glad you enjoyed your meal. We have a slow food philosophy and think it's much too good to rush!

Heritage centre and cafe in the old station on the Taw estuary

Reviewed By KingLouie - london

My family and I arrived in Devon today for the start of our Easter family holiday. With hungry children we visited this cafe for lunch before checking into our holiday cottage.
Our youngest son has recently been diagnosed with autism and this was the first time we’d eaten out for a quite a while. He finds this type of activity quite stressful and true to form it became pretty stressful very quickly. In the confusion I ordered him the wrong baguette, which could be catastrophic in his world. I only realised my error when the food was served, at which point I realised I had to swiftly go and order what he wanted in the first place. When the second baguette was served, the lovely lady, who I assume to be the manager realised what had happened. She took the first baguette away and refunded us. This was such a kind thing to do. I don't think she knows quite how much it meant to us. She really didn’t need to do this as the error was 100% mine. Anyway, normal service was resumed and we all enjoyed a lovely lunch, the food was delicious. Lovely baguettes filled to the brim with tasty fillings and wonderful service too. We will make a (hopefully less stressful) return visit.
Thank you so much.

We are here after not really being able to decide where to eat. We walked in off the street and managed to grab the last table as it was very busy. Great choice of burgers that Scooby would be proud of , they cook your burger how you like it, and the portions are very good especially with some of the delicious sides. We will return.

Everest Gurkha Chef

Reviewed By bigbird314

Small restaurant with simple unpretentious cafe-like decor with the kitchen in full view. Initially the 3 of us were told they were full, but when they realised we just wanted a quick.bite, they offered us a table booked for later.
I've eaten curries all over the country, and this is one of the best 3 curry restaurants I've been to. We had 3 chicken dishes (my daughter will only eat chicken) - sunsuri, bhuna and Himalayan. All were superb. The sag aloo was the best I've ever had - few restaurants use fresh spinach.
Usually, I would criticise restaurants charging for tap water (unlimited for £1), but it's made quite clear that they do and the food is so good I'm prepared to forgive them. Only slight criticism was the nan - cut up for you and piled up, and as a result not as fluffy as I would like. Service was excellent and as restaurant is small the chefs had time to come and chat while everyone ate.
Thoroughly recommended.
