Guangdong (Chinese: 广东) is a province in South China, located on the South China Sea coast. Traditionally romanised as Kwangtung, Guangdong surpassed Henan and Sichuan to become the most populous province in China in January 2005, registering 79.1 million permanent residents and 31 million migrants who lived in the province for at least six months of the year; the total population was 104,303,132 in the 2010 census, accounting for 7.79 percent of Mainland China's population. We walked to the lake from our hotel which was nearby. We came in the east gate and didn't see anyone collecting gate fees. The area is huge and the hills have that rock structure that one sees in Chinese paintings. Unfortunately someone persuaded us to ride on their motorbike "bus" which then instead of taking us around the lake as they said, took to the streets and wanted to drive outside the lake! For that we could have taken a bus. And then he insisted on his 40 RMB payment which we refused when we got off once we realised what was happening. I think there are bikes for hire but they must be from another entrance.
