Very dirty, short staffed & poor customer service

Stay away from this place! So overpriced!! Our room (106) was so tiny, incredibly basic (very much like a hostel) and had a large amount of mould above the shower in the tiny bathroom. At check-in, we were led into the bar area to wait, where there were 3 groups ahead of us, not offered a drink or anything so we decided to go to the restaurant for lunch instead of wasting more time. The food is very basic. Most definitely you could make it at home, and very cheaply. The crab and avocado salad was made with tinned crab for example. The pool has a dark line of dirt around the water line and felt really run down. The showers in the changing rooms were absolutely disgusting with wet towels and rubbish left on the floor. We went to reception to report the mess and ask for clean towels but again were left waiting more than 15 minutes while the receptionist chatted. I emailed to give feedback and was told they're busy and understaffed so cant give 100%!! The grounds are OK, but there are various skips and lockups around that are messy. We were so disappointed that we thought this would be a treat for us. The spa treatment was lovely, and the yoga class was good (after the teacher stopped moaning at us for having entered the room early! The staff were not overly friendly, and only the spa treatment and the yoga class made us feel calm. The place as a whole has a strange atmosphere otherwise.

Trip was fine

We enjoyed our stay. When we arrived we were placed in a bungalow that had been recently painted, unfortunately the smell of paint was to strong for us but we were moved straight away, the apartment we were moved into was a bit older. We were looking forward to going for breakfast in the cafe next door however we were told that it was fully booked and we need to book in advance, we asked to book for the next morning but we were told it was fully booked. It was annoying because we had not brought anything with us for breakfast/lunch as we knew there was the cafe. It should be mentioned when booking that the cafe needs to be booked in advance. They couldn't even give us takeaway so we had to drive into the town for breakfast. The beds were comfy and lots of fresh towels. I'm very sensitive to smells and there was a musty old smell in the bedroom and the bathroom smelled of chlorine. I chose to leave the window open most of the trip. There is nothing in the area itself but the town is a 8 minute drive away. There are nice views and the people who run it are lovely.

Walking the Wicklow Way, I was very happy to stay at Lough Dan House. Theresa couldn't do enough and the lovely freshly cooked dinner and breakfast were the best I had had so far. The bedroom was nicely furnished and the bed very comfortable. Even the packed lunch was great and very appreciated on my walk to Glendalough. Would highly recommend.
