The inner castle of the city of urfa, located on the northern border of the Fertile Crescent, which has been frequently mentioned by Neolithic excavations and archaeological finds in recent periods, was built longitudinally in the east-west direction.it is located south of the sacred Fish Lake and the city.the castle is a difficult Castle to capture thanks to the moat on the south side, formed by human hands and natural roads.2 columns entitled Corinth, seen from far away in the castle, are known as the columns in which the Prophet Abraham was thrown into the fire during the struggle of the Prophet Abraham with nemrut.archaeologically, these columns on the north-facing surface of the column in the east direction, it is understood from an Aramaic inscription that it was built by the kingdom of abgar, the local Kingdom of Urfa in the 3rd century AD.the Aramaic inscription contains the following sentences “ " I am Eftuha, son of the sun. I built these columns and the statue on them for Queen Shalmet, daughter of King Mano."According to the accounts of travelers and inscriptions, it is said that a palace belonging to the kingdom of orshone, which ruled Urfa between 2rd century BC and 3rd century AD, and villas belonging to noblemen were built on the hill where the castle was located . During the excavations of the castle, a large number of artifacts belonging to the Byzantine and Islamic period were found.it is possible to say that the castle took its final form today during the reign of the Abbasids.again, the coins recovered are believed to have been used extensively during the Byzantine,Ayyubid and Ottoman periods of the castle.

Harran Ruins

Reviewed By SuhaGuvenc - Istanbul, Turkey

Harran Ruins are genuine culture items of world history no doubt. However the area of university and even town itself is quite neglected. Only few of beehive houses are remaining and they are converted into "culture houses" which you may have to pay. ATTENTION: Keep away from unofficial local guides!!! They approach you as soon as you enter the town and offer guidance immediately. Do not accept their offer! Later they take you to culture house and try to sell you thing and later charge you like a crazy for their service. Make your own tour! Apart from that, the ambiance and lifestyle is amazing there. The shape of the houses, the world's first university remainings.. do not miss it! Harran is a place you should see before you die.
