Top 10 African food in Lome, Maritime Region, Togo

August 30, 2020 Brandee Mangan

Reviews on African food in Lome, Maritime Region, Togo. Sitting on the Gulf of Guinea, the port city of Lome serves as the capital of Togo, a sliver of a country in West Africa. Famous for the friendliness of its people and the beauty of its countryside, Lome is the perfect place to relax after exploring Togo's hills and forests. White beaches are lined with hotels, while the interior of the city offers a series of markets for avid shoppers. Visit the Grand Marche for colorful Togo fabrics or the Fetish Market, which sells protections from evil.

Marcelo Beach Club

We visited Marcelo Beach Club on October 31, 2016 with a bridal party of 14. The service was prompt, the ambiance was beautiful as we had a table adjacent to the beach and the food was fresh. I appreciated that it took time to make all of our ordered entrees from whole grilled fish to gambas (prawns) and grilled lamb; it was delicious. The drinks could have been a bit more plentiful however overall the experience was wonderful. We will be back!

Foi d'auvergnat... on y reviendra.

Worked in town for 5 weeks and my business partner KNOWS fish (Mediterranean dude, grew up on the sea, loves his damn fish) and we went at least every other night. CHOOSE carefully what type of fish you want and really know/understand how fresh the catch is. Pick the better type fish, don't go cheap. Better fish just tasted so much better with the preferred sides you like. That took some trial/error for me.GO FRESH...caught that day if possible. They don't make money by letting fish rot out back. I never thought they tried to push off anything spoiled but then again if you don't know what your looking at...its ON YOU.They will roll the fish out on a cart, you make your selection with the cook right there and tell both cook/staff how you want it (staff made sure cook got it right)...we were never disappointed. The cooks/staff work hard back there (busy place so go early) in the heat so BE KIND.Sides were all good and if you wanted to try something, they would bring you out a sample. Portions were really good and often a lil to much. They were always being generous. We drank beer with our meals though they did have a bar in another room (never went in there). Its a covered center court place, open family style chairs/tables with lots of side tables for smaller groups, pretty wide open. NO AC but plenty of fans to move the hot air around. Flies to of course but after dark not has many as you think.English was really pretty good, staff were always nice. We were there so much, we became friends...really nice people. We tipped well (like all Americans should) and because we were Americans we drew far more pleasant attention and we returned that kindness for locals we met (sorry Frenchy but they really kinda hate you but you know that and don't care).Service was slow...sometimes SO slow...its a 2 hour order-to-eat-leave deal and we were never really sure why it was so slow...just cultural mostly. And it was that way if we were the first people to sit down that evening. We walked from the hotel, not 6-8 mins...easy to get there. Watch the moped traffic....ENJOY

The restaurant is located in a central area. The place is clean and well furnished. There is a good choice of plates and the fish is very fresh (you can choose the one you want to eat directly from the tray that the waiter brings to your table). On the other hand the service is slow and inattentive
