Things to do in The Hebrides, Scotland: The Best Gear Rentals

March 14, 2022 Enedina Augsburger

This beautiful archipelago, where Scottish Gaelic is still spoken, is divided into the Inner and Outer Hebrides and stretches the length of Scotland's west coast. The most visited and largest of the Western Isles is the brooding Isle of Skye, a short ferry ride or bridge away from the mainland. Islay, home to prolific whisky production, is another gem. Highlights of the less visited Outer Isles include stark Lewis and the town of Stornoway, rugged Harris, with sandy beaches and tranquil Barra.

Islay Cycles

We hired an ebike and a regular bike for a trip up to the American Monument, and had a really great day out! The ebike definitely helped on the hills! Jim was brilliant and friendly, and really knowledgable about the island and the cycle paths, and gave us some extra tips on where to go - he even lent us a map to help us get there. He also helped us to set up and adjust the bikes, and gave us helmets and saddle bags included in the price. Will definitely be coming back to Jim next time we’re in Islay!

We were in Barra for a few days and decided last minute to hire bikes to cycle around. Bikes were good quality and functioned well. Given how short notice it was there was excellent availability too. Bikes in the background of my photo ;-)
